Go demo it for yourself. Don't base your decision on what other people think of the machine.
We have a Kobelco 45sr2. Its the next size up from that 36. Kobelco and Case are the same exact machine with different paint (in the mini size that is). Our machine is really powerful for its size if you ask me and we havent had any problems with it. If i were you id go try it for yourself.

Its a clean looking unit. Case is made by Kobelco who also builds them for new Holland. I think 2005 was the first year of that design.. Here is a spec chart to match other models to. I see an enclosed cab. Is it just heat or A/C and heated cab??? The machine isn't even broken in yet with only 160 hrs on..Thats a great price..Tell him you will take it if he throws in another bucket and gives you 0% fro 36 Months.LOL.. Good Luck!!!!

The spec sheet makes me more interested in the Cat 303.5 cr
I want to demo it but just looking for input wasn't sure if this was a bad year or had problems. I just get bad feeling when someone is slashing the price 12K makes me think something is wrong. Still looking around because it seems like now is a great time to buy.

The Case/Kobelco's are a good machine, I'd grab it PDQ.

I'm a big fan of the Case/Kobelco/NH's and for that price if everythings works on the demo, why not? As for cutting the price, they are probably sick of sitting on a machine. If they can set you up with a good finance package it would help make it even better.

Thats a 4 year old machine.
It has no quick disconnect and no thumb.
Looks like 1 bucket.
It is to much in my opinion.
You need to price a machine in that class new.

You may have problems with that machine down the road. If its only got 160 hours then its been sitting alot. A machine that sits is a machine that will have problems with wiring and dried out seals.
Price out a new machine first. I would buy that machine if it had 500 hours on it. Then you know its not going to have problems.
I demoed a 36 prior to the B series and I was not that impressed. I have since rented some 36B's and I really liked this B series. Its real nice excavator. Don't sweat the seals it will be just fine. New that machine would be around 40K with a cab. A thumb is a couple K. I would demo it and see what kind of deal you can make. Kobelco builds a good mini ex. Check the spec and you see its a strong excavator.

I've got a tractor with a loader on it, bought it new in 2000. I use it about 50-60 hours a year. Almost 9 years later it has 500 hours on it and has been problem free, I've only changed the oil in it. Everything else is original, battery, ect.
out the door for 24 ,deals a poppin these days!

You add a few buckets and a hyd thumb and you will have close to 30k in it.
The deals are the ones where they already have all of this stuff.
Couple that with low interest rate finacing and the deal is just mediocre.
:)that's true ,it is not a all powerful tac

The question from my point of view: "is it a good deal?". We pay thousands for equipment and have to earn it back in hundreds. These current times are hard and driving a hard bargain on the purchase of any type of machinery should be the mind set. It is easy to purchase any kind of iron, the trick is to make it pay for itself. My point is, if they are asking "X" dollars offer a whole lot less and meet somewhere in the middle or look for another deal........there are tons of deals out there right now. It is time to toughen up and be very business like in your decisions and grind where you can....it may be the difference between success and failure down the road a piece.
i could not agree more .it would not be my first choice ,the market is floded with minis and juniors. but if he has a niche to fill, with good finance(whatever that is now)i think that price is not bad.that said i would look long and hard before i bought anything now.

Just demo it and see how you like it. You can always add a thumb like someone else said...they're not too terribly expensive. Look at it this way...you save money and you can get a really good thumb versus some stupid direct link thumb they throw on there from accurate or whatever.

The good financing for used equipment is still not easy to get.
Most finance companies are still a little reluctant.
As RSG said times are tough and if you do buy this and do not have some cash laying around then you may have to struggle to buy some buckets thumbs etc.
Assuming depreciation(which is all the banks will look at) what would that machine be worth to a bank?
Also I do not like Takeuchi's machine in that class.
I prefer the Komatsu PC 35 long stick.
You can find 6 tons machines(2006/2007) with every option and 4 buckets and thumb for 40k or less and super low hours.
He will be into this machine apples to apples for 30k and it is still a 2005 .
But if he has no need for any other buckets, can get good financing and has work for it to start making money right know then I would say run with it.
The used market seems hard pressed to find cheap money. I was quoted rates of 8.5 percent. Seems crazy when morgage rates are at near record lows.

I just read an article in Business Week that now is the choice time to start a bank. You can get money dirt cheap, turn around and charge premium and you don't have any liabilities that existing banks have. How does the First Federal Back of Ryan sound?

Sounds good, I just need a Cougar to front me a couple mil so I can get a charter. In the article it sounds like these new banks are going after specific business markets sense the banks are abandoning them.

I've heard it all, ot enough hours, its a couple year old machine, that's laughable as far as I'm concerned. If it were 15 years old maybe, even then, I'd trade a few dried out seals for a worn out machine. Anyhow, I think they are decent machines. The price being slashed is just a good indication of poor sales. You are in the drivers seat.
