I have a ht-45 trimmer that i picked up used a short time ago. I have to drain the gas tank after every use or the crankcase fills with fuel. What would allow the fuel to go from the tank thru the carb and into the crankcase without the motor running? Any help is appreciated.

I have that exact hedge trimmer also. I have never had that problem before. Does it run accordingly when it is filled? Maybe the fuel lines are backwards. I had a guy have the same trouble on a trimmer except it would drain out the air intake whe his lines were backwards. I guess the pressure inside builds inside the tank and pushes the fuel out of the venturi and into the crankcase. Retro bob may know the problem for sure

The inlet needle inside the carb is not seating, this can be caused by debris stuck between the needle and seat or a worn diaphragm gasket pushing on the needle lever holding it open or just a needle lever set too high causing it to flood. All of these lead to pulling the carb and cleaning out and or rebuilding. I hope this helps.....:)

Thanks for the ideas. I'll check the lines and pull the carb if the problem persists. Appreciate that. Bob
