Hi All,
My first post here -

I just got a new BR550 leaf blower today, and assembled it. One of the steps was to adjust the throttle control at the trigger. The instructions were to tighten the screw just until resistance is met.

I turned that thing about 40 turns w/ no resistance. Both before and after I adjusted it, I can feel the trigger activating the throttle, and it rev's up.

Should I have hit a stop by now, or is it possible that it could take even more turns?

Any advice?

Side note: This thing runs great, it started on the 2nd pull ever, and the first pull every time since then. The sound is really weird, and even when it's rev'ed up, it doesn't sound like it's working.

Thanks, and I look forward to working on this site,

Pete

I'm not sure I'm reading your post right. Does there seem to be too much slack in the throttle? When you open the throttle the engine should respond after a few thou' movement of the trigger.

If this is not happening look at the carburetter end, where the cable goes into the carb there should be and adjuster on the cable to take up any slack.
If there's too much slack you will not get full throttle.

Did you buy via mail order or did the cheep-skate dealer not assemble it for you:hammerhead:

Get back to us on this.

Good luck, Phil:ukflag:

Oh, and welcome to one of the best forums on the internet. Some great folk on here, always willing to help out. Enjoy:usflag:

Hey Flypigs, Where did you get that blower from? Whats the dealer's name or web site? I've been looking for a deal on one, but maybe a BR600. They do sound different because they are. 4 cycle hybrid.

Ahhh, a friend from a Home County! I bought it from a nearby (45 minutes away) Stihl dealer by phone, and it was cheaper to ship it to me, than for me to drive into that state and pay sales tax.

The throttle begins to engage as soon as I move the trigger (and did even before I began to adjust the screw in the trigger). When I read the instruction to adjust, I figured it would be 3-4 turns. After 10 I began to be suspicous, and after 30-40 I wondered if there was anything on the end of the screw.

Considering the 45 minute drive each way to have the dealer look at it, and that it's running fine (but more rev's are still better), I'll probably just pull the cover off and see if there is anything obvious.

I just wondered if someone here knew of similar problems.

Thanks again,

Pete

You should be tightening up the screw until the trigger doesn't hardly have any slack. My has slack in it, but it has been like that. I haven't had any problems out of it running full throttle because I know it how it sounds.

That is why Stihl absolutely forbids dealers to ship product. You should bring it to a dealer and let them repair the throttle adjustment and test run. It probably hasn't been registered either so warranty work will be a problem (if needed) That moron can lose his dealership because of something like this.

As they say if it works don't fix it, just leave it alone and run it.
That's what I would do, especially since it seems like it's doing all right.

And I think you may have adjusted the wrong screw lol but look, just leave it be,
stop worrying about that and run it.

Wow, I sure wasn't trying to stir all that up, I just wanted to know if someone had assembled one of these before, and if they sometimes needed a lot of turns.

I actually called this dealer about another non-Stihl blower, but when I asked about the price of the BR550, it was w/in $10 of the one I was shopping for, so it made sense, and shipping it was better than going to pick it up.

Thanks again for the feedback, and I hope to be able to participate more here.
