The problem is convincing people its cheaper to have a machine do the job is tough. Homeowners can be stupid you could spend hours digging by hand and it would have been cheaper to hire a machine.

There are places where you have to hand dig but I don't do that anymore my back can't take that slave labouring.

Yeah, I know all about that, Dad's just like a homeowner and he thinks I just like running equipment, which I do, but they do save time and pain.

I cant take being ditch bitc# either, but yet I always am :wall I need to go work for KSSS

I have told homeowners to go stuff it when they ask can you dig this out for us all done by hand. There was one homeowner (passed away now) that wanted some post holes dug. I tried them by hand no way the ground was full of roots and hard as concrete. There was a contractor working down the street with a mini I told the homeowner to get the machine to dig the holes. No no can't do that too expensive

I said I'am not digging them by hand. I think the homeowner ended up digging them by hand to what save 40-50 dollars. Lots of access to get the machine into walk up the street dig the holes in 30 mins and leave.

No more of that hand digging I spent too many hours with back pain some days I couldn't work for a week.

Why do you let a ho tell you how to do a job. They tell you their objective and you give them a price.

On 8th or 9th street right? That's the dealer I go to. They about know me on sight by now. If I'm calling about parts or a problem all I just have to say what model my mower is and they recognize me. They have been extremely helpful all these years. I was offered some nice deals on mowers that hurt me physically to turn down.

And I think it is more behind that used car dealer than the Captian D's

Egads, man. Put the running shoes away for a little while and siddle on over to the pizza buffet. Excavating contractors are supposed to be nearly as wide as they are tall...that's why the doors on the big stuff are soooo large.

You sit that narrow frame of yours in some construction equipment and two things are going to happen:

One, your butt bones are gonna hurt all the time. That ain't good.
Two, your going to be wearing out the vinyl seat covers faster from the narrow bones slicing the seat covers up. Better add $.10/operating hour for the increased cost.:usflag:

Ahh seriously, you are probably a runner or just have a very high metabolic resting rate. Keep it as long as you can, somewhere in life it will catch up to you. Just a little fun. Welcome to the forum.

hey 93turbo thats a big buggy, how much does she hold?

That one holds 750 bushel but the farmer I was helping just got rid of it and the tractor and picked up a versatile 300 and a 1150 bushel cart and for those who don't know bushels 1000 bushel is a semi load in a grain hopper. Of course how many bushel you actually got is a guessing game and the loads range between 45k and 65k pounds depending on how close to finishing a field we are LOL.

I almost always work alone, so it's a rare occasion that there would be someone around to take my picture. And I'm usually no where near civilization.
Haha, but here's a couple.

Well I have to use a pick and shovel as well as other tools. At 6'7" 235# I can get out that window, but I agree it was not easy. Now for the wife part I cannot argue with that one as I live alone in a house full of books and machinery. My hands are rough, rusty and often holding grease and dirt under my fingernails. Unfortunately, gloves make my hands sweat like crazy and give me a rash.

You guys in the USA may not find them but this is what I wear.

These ones in the summer

www.watsongloves.com/item-959-300-Blue_Collar.htm

These in the winter or most of the time in the summer.

www.watsongloves.com/item-948-300I-Tough_Guy.htm

These Tough Guy gloves are great because you don't loose your range of motion with your hands. They are tough I use them for doing demo clean up etc they don't get snagged if something slips out of your hands.

I also use these they work good but they are not as good as the Tough Guy

Heck I wear gloves all the time when I am working just to be able to grip things better, plus I think that it helps with stopping blisters and keeps your hands from getting as tore up. I like the gloves that I just got, they are made by a company called Ansell. I found them at Menards.

Good eye!, My good friend and his girl and us two went to Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg for an extended 5 day weekend vacation. Actually it was the only vacation I went on at all this year.

The next day we took a hike up to the tallest falls in the area. The guide said it was only a 4.5mi hike which we thought wouldnt take long at all, boy were we wrong, it took like over 6hrs round trip, and with 30min to go on our way back we got hit with the mother of all downpours, all four of us had to strip down to our undies in the truck b/c we were soaked.

Next we have the Father of the Legend , followed by the Mother, and last but not least GR 's dog that unfortunetly passed away last week , due to the extreme shortage of dog food in Bc, the horrible weather, his owners rambling and crying, lack of work for dogs, being treated unfairly by the Bc government, fear of the new hst tax, and the fact that the olympics are now over which will cause BC to seperate and fall into the Ocean.

Hey.......a tilt bucket on a TLB, never seen that before!

Someone should take it one step further and put a roto-tilt on one. That would be a pretty sweet setup for working in tight spaces!

I was asking because Dad, Mom and Dads friend that owned a million dollar plus concrete company attended the show in the late 90s. Just curious if you were there at the sametime.

Junior, that was the biggest convention I've ever been to. I don't remember exactly, but I think there was like 1.5 million sq. ft. under roof and the displays go outside clear around the building. There was anything and everything that pertained to concrete construction there.

Just figured I would chime in.

Have a nice day.

God Bless,

Sam

I just noticed that the skid steer in the pic looks like an 80's era machine, like a 743 or 843 in beautiful shape. Either this is an older picture or someone really cares for their loader!

By chance are any of the people in this picture referred to as "The Don"?

Blue Goose

OK Thomas, I'm going to assume your question was serious.....No, as far as I know, nobody there is referred to as "The Don". Do you have a last name of this person that you might think is "The Don"? How often do you get to this side of the river and are you familiar with some of the heavy highway contractors here?

I hope this isn't sounding like a quiz show...http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q310/centurycoronado/smilies/smilierollinglaugh.gif
