As the title says: where can i find used values of equipment?? I am particularly looking for used values of a bobcat mt55, and bobcat s300? May be trading in for tax purposes and need to know what they are worth.
Local bobcat dealer is offering me $12k for my mt55 w/500 hours, but wants 20k for the new one . Haven't even asked them about the s300 yet. Should have my vts tracks for the 300 by the end of the week, can't wait. Unfortunately temps are in the single digits here for highs right now and no where to test it out (ground is a bit frozen). Thanks as always for your help.

There are a couple guides the dealers use ones called the Green book I believe. You can google it and you can find it. Last I checked you can check the values on line but they charge you. The other issue is with the economy as it is I am not sure that a book even the most current will be all that accurate. The best bet may be to talk with Kamp and then call the BC dealer in Billings and see if they are close to the same. That would give you the best idea for the area your in as to what they are worth given the current economic condition.

You can also try machinerytrader.com. It won't give you the value of the piece but you can compare what they are selling for.

There is a significant disconnect today between machinerytrader.com and what is going on in the equipment market today. Check auction sites like IronPlanet.com and see what things are going for. I know they are slightly depressed price levels at auction but at machinerytrader.com they are artificially high today.
Right now I'm p**sed that I missed out on another excavator purchase at an IronPlanet auction a week ago. I was too busy to follow the auction and missed on a cherry PC78 that went for cheap......

You are not joking. I had my finger on the bid button on Thursday. I could not believe what some things sold for. The nearly new Doosan excavators 05 and 06s some with less then 800 hours, 175 sized machines that went for 40K and under. You could own a near new excavator for the price of a mid size skid steer. The best part was they were from here in Idaho and Utah, cheap shipping. Probably should have done it.

Yep, I could have put a PC160 and PC78 together at IronP auction for less than the cost of the PC160 new.
There will still be some deals out there in 1Q2009 but I'm beginning to believe that the really good stuff just may be gone.
I did not look at any of the deals on the Doosan's-those appear to be the deal of the day.

That is very true, it kinda sucks to sell anything right now.

Wow, missed that sale, unfortunately dealing with snow but sounds like cheap money for those. As I keep preaching (with no one listening) those daewoo's really are a pretty decent rig. Really like my 130-5. Only complaint is not quite as smooth a the 311c I had but nice and a heck of a lot less money.

I jumped to the Doosan site and investigated the 175 while I was waiting for them to come up for bid. They seem to have most the features of everyone elses excavator. Even Pro Control as CASE would call they call it antibound valving to keep you from over shooting the hole. I am a CASE guy but for 38K-40K for a near new 175 sized machine , I can get over it. My closest dealer for Doosan is Salt Lake City 4 hours away.

What a shame, mine is older , a 2000 or so and still a very competent rig, just seems like if something has cat or deere written on it people are willing to pay twice the price, which is exactly what a comparable cat would have brought anyway.

Even some of those values are off, if you check the results for that auction there were some deals on other machines as well. A JD 322 for 12,500 and others. Given the tough economic conditions we are in, I would much rather run a Doosan for half the money a month than CAT at twice the payment. Granted resale it may come back around but at 40K if you kept it for 4 years and only got half you money back on resale (I am sure you would do better than that) you ran an excavator for four years and it costs you 20K in depreciation. That is crazy for a machine that new of any color.

On that skid steer note, I just bought an 06 asv rc 60 with cab heat and 800 hours. Could use tracks but running it, paid 11k. Tracks are about 3500 but I should be able to squeeze out a season unless I run it a bunch.

Do guys need money so bad they don't care what they get?
As far as the Doosan machines, Rock Set has some scoop on their deal as most were from his area. Apparently they had too much inventory and Doosan would not give them any more until they got rid of what they had. So they did, must of hurt though.

Yes, I see where you are going with the Ip thing. However, the question was about value. Auctions have highs and lows. Machines that are in near or new condition, sell cheap at times. Others, I've seen go to what you can buy from a private seller. I think it depends on the machine itself. Sometime the market is flooded with a certian piece. For example, Late 90's Komatsu pc 50's. I know of two contractors that bought them at auction. One paid 11.5k. The other was over 17k. Same year close to same hrs. Major price diif. If I put an add in the paper for X piece @ X amount. Nobody is going to give or offer you your asking price. I get the auction book from machinery trader(Not that I'm special). I see the highs and lows of what X piece sells for, then look @ private listings and go from there. Nobody will argue that machinery is going cheap right now. Houses are too. The VALUE of some of these house and machines are waaaay lower than what they are worth.

If you didn't need a machine to make money hopefully, and money to spend, now is really probably the time to buy a house,to flip later:confused::usflag:

I agree if you can get a hold of a house and hold it off the market for a while. I would like to do something like this someday.

Thanks for the help guys i checked out the websites you mentioned. This is what i am thinking: 2006 S300, gold pack., w/500 hours, $26-28k? (keep in mind my location, equipment is still bringing pretty good money around here, not everyone and their dog has to own a skid steer like back east), 2006 MT55 w/500 hours, $13k? These are both in like new condition w/exception of tires/tracks.
I know like you guys stated stuff is going pretty cheap at auctions right now, but that is not what i am talking about here. I am trying to establish what my equip. is worth, that way if tax man calls and says buy something, i will have a good idea, going into dealership to trade. THanks as always.
VTS track delivery got pushed until after the first of the year, sent the wrong model to the dealer :(.
