I've a nasty one on the left hydro. As best I can tell it is coming from around the "reservoir adapter" on the bottom of the hydro. This adapter looks like a polypro or nylon fitting, like a cleanout on a pipe, w/ a small barb on it for the oil supply line.

When cleaned, as best I can, I am not seeing any significant oil about the bottom of the hydro or around the edge of the flange in which the threaded adapter is located, but it is on the adapter and in the gap between it and the flange.

Is this a common leak point on these hydros? Would replacing the adapter be a good fix? I don't see any indication of an o-ring in the Grasshopper drawings, but they may not show the entire hydro picture.

I was thinking of maybe a little thread sealer but I am wary of having bits flake off into the hydro workings.

Thanks for any advice.

I have a 1987 Grasshopper 1822K and have changed the oil in the hydro system about 5 times the last time being about three years ago. In doing so, I always re[lace the poly lines to the reserve tank and remove the adapters on the bottom of the hydro to allow the oil to drain faster. As I recall there is an O ring on both the top and bottom adapters.

Thanks for the info Dutch. I'll have to find someplace that sells these o-rings, I need to get the snow thrower on soon. Fortunately, just the usual wet ice mix here in S.E. PA so far...
