Hello All.

I Need a couple ideas what shrubs or trees will go well in a landscape up against a white standard fence (pic included) in South Florida (zone 10-11). the fence is 6 ft tall but provides no privacy whatsoever around the pool. I want to layer it a bit and put some variation in there as opposed to a formal ficus or cocoplum hedge (plus ficus is getting DESTROYED by the whitefly down here)

Any ideas are greatly appreciated!!

I don't know what you guy's use down there but up here willows grow quite fast and form a nice hedge. Arborvitae is a good choice but that would be a hedge too.

Is that an ostrich in your avatar? Do they really have teeth? That thing looks scary.

Are you talking about for just in front of the fence or for height also?

Trees and leaves into the pool.....:hammerhead: If the fence is far enough away from the pool put jasmine on it and it will cover , or some other vine.

I do believe that a variety of different hollies grow there; I'd suggest something like Savannah, East Palatka, or Eagleston if you're going for more height, or something like dwarf burford if you're going for more of a shrubby screen..

I haven't lived in Fl. since 79' so a bit out of touch on the plants and all but what something like Basjoo Banana Trees? You could plant a variety of colors and plantings in front of them

I was reading a little bit about Jasmine that sounds like an excellent choice! But will it be able to climb a vertical aluminum fence? It says that they lack clinging aerial roots. The fence is 6 feet tall, how long would it take Jasmine to provide privacy of the whole fence? (which is about 40 feet in length)

jasmine grows pretty fast in the summer time with all the rain. a few types have fragrants. i have confederate jasmine growing on a lattice and in the spring smells good. whats nice is it will weave around the fencing all by itself. pretty neat! good choice!
