View Full Version : How much would you pay for a 1-800 Number?

I am thinking of starting a business using my 1-800-Mow-My-Lawn number. It would be alot like 1-800-lawncare but much cheaper and no business plans and all that. Pretty much a trimmed down version for much cheaper. You would buy locations by zip or area code per month. How much would you pay a month for the use of 1-800-MOW-MY-LAWN? You would get your specific target area, use of 1-800-MOW-MY-LAWN logos, a page on a new redesigned high quality website and access to customized forms, door hangers, invoices, truck vinyl designs and shirts at a competitive price plus you would pay .10 a min for the calls that come into your number each month.

Never mind.

By the way, we pay $3/mo for ours from PowerNet Global out of Cinci.

Nevermind what?

Is it a normal numerical number or is it a vanity number?

I know this is not fer everyone, but I have talked to people out there who would like to use 1-800-lawncare or US lawns but don't need or want all that they offer or want to pay the price they charge.

Do you have any idea how much it would cost you to set up your # to be zip code specified and forward the calls accordingly?? I have a feeling it would be very expensive to set up.

With a 1-800 number you are just opening yourself up to price shoppers, besides that most of your accounts are local to you right? if not, I bet your operating cost are through the roof.

Besides all of that, why would you want to add to your overhead? it all trickles back to the customers.

Start asking your customers if they would like to be able to reach you via 1-800 with a rate increase to them for the cost?

Good luck to you.

Nowadays most people have unlimited calling plans and 1 800 dosnt attract them as it has in the past.
SOmetimes does more harm then good as they cannot figure out where you are located.

I am working on that

It has nothing to do with the free call, it is all about building brand recognition. Do you remember every number you see advertised? no but you would remember 1-800-Plumber or 1-800-MOW-MY-LAWN next time you need service

Like I said it has nothing to do with the free call and I would love to see data were a 1-800 number hurt business. Since I started putting my toll free out there and really using it, by business has almost doubled, people comment on the number all the time because they remember it. Also, A good 1-800 vanity number is hard to get, they are mostly all gone and study after study shows that a 888, 877 ect. number is not nearly as affective

Whatever the fee and monthly or per minute charges i think you could utilize this money in other areas of advertising that would be more effective.

Actually I am should be able to get the per minute charge under .05.
People pay way way more for similar services, But I want to make one that is affordable. Allot of people underestimate the value of a good 1-800 vanity number. Do some research on it you will be surprised by the statistics.

I'm not saying it's a bad idea by any means, my reason for not getting one is that I just don't feel it's necessary for my business. If it is affordable and it works for you, then go for it. Good luck and have a great holiday.

Thanks, Ya I'm sure there are people that will not be interested in such a thing. My thought is there are other companies out there who are doing this and charging a ton for it. I want to offer a cheaper alternative, Cheap enough that it is almost hard to turn down.

what I don't understand is why would you want to charge less for maintenance when you know you can get more?
Use the number, its a great idea. just dont cheapen your prices to get work. hurts you most and trickles to other companies after awhile cause we have to work alot harder to justify why we're charging $100/cut and mow my lawn only charged me $30. They did? where they at now?( senario).
I don't mow but take it for what its worth i guess.

I think you are confused, I am talking about a cheap alternative for the use of the number not the actual mowing services.

gotcha!
cause when I read " I want to offer a cheaper alternative, cheap enough that its hard to turn down."
I thought you were talking about your services then.

lol, No I am firmly against lowballers (or as I like to call them SCABS) who don't pay taxes, BWC or Ins. That's not a business income that's beer money.

I would be interested in such a number if the cost was reasonable.

I think the point a lot of people are missing is, a number like 1-800-Lawn-Cut is very easy for potential customers to remember. How many times have you seen an advertisement for a business or service, and be in a hurry (such as driving past) and unable to remember the phone number?

There's a junk removal company called 1-800-GOT-JUNK...I mean, you see one of their signs and you got their number in your head already.

Why don't you just see if the company who owns 1-800-LawnCare and others wants to buy your # from you? They might pay you big bucks $$$.

I do have the number and thank you. I figure I only use it in Holmes and Wayne county Ohio, Why not capitalize on it in the rest of the country?

Well technically you can not sell a toll free number, You can however sell and business and the toll free number be a asset of that business that goes with the sale.

I talked to AT&T today and it all looks good. It will be a little more expensive then I wanted it to be but I can't control that, there is a $30 charge per termination point (so for every person that signs up there would be a extra$30 charge each month) so I am going to up the price just enough to cover that. I am most likely going to have the territory divided up by exchange (the three digits after your area code)as it will keep it much cheaper then going with zip codes. So prices are looking pretty firm at $79.99 for the first exchange and $4.99 for each additional exchange. I am hoping to get this up and running by March 1st for this season. If you are interested or want to be kept up to date on this PM me with your e-mail address.

So $79.99/month, plus $0.0x a minute. Or just $79.99/month?

Thanks,

AdamChrap
01-08-2009, 09:40 AM
79.99 plus about .04 a min. What I do now is stil put my normal number on all my bids, invoices and business cards. What I have found is most people call the toll free the first time then the regular number after that. My bill is very low but the number brings in a lot of business.

I wont pay anything for that mowing number. The web site looks like total garbage. The 1-800-LawnCut site is much better.

Wow, Did you even read the previous posts? It stated "a page on a new redesigned high quality website". Also why don't you give LawnCut a call and ask about pricing?

I just had a break through in this whole idea. I found a method of doing this via zip code for much cheaper. Costs are going to be $49.95 a month for the first zip code and $4.95 a month for each after that with a $199 setup fee for those who get in on this early. It will include unlimited minutes! For now the web sight will be new and better quality then it is now but it will not be extravagant. Later we will offer a much better web sight and more printed materials ect. and the price will most likely go up. But for those that lock in there prices wile this is in the beginning stages they will get all of that later for no extra charge! I am very excited about all this so please PM me to be added to the update list.
Thanks
