The exsisting brown brick patio was laid on a 5" base of sand (never saw that before, the patio was 25yrs old). By the time everything was dug i think we excavated like 11" of material waste. The pavers are Cambridge 6x9's and are laid in 45 degree herring bone pattern. We built the steps, walls and piers out of cinder block and veneered the pavers to it. Then capped it all off w/ 2'' rock face blue stone. I didn't want to touch the natural stone coping because, the mortar was connected to the tile in the gunite pool and it would have of been a nightmare.

Twitchy, you guys do some great work.
Did you get a roller to tamp the base?

The coping around the pool is a very odd choice. Everything looks great to me except for that. Its a shame too. The patio, the steps, and the walls look soo nice but to me, that just takes awat from the entire job.

No, just a regular tamper w/ water tank. I usually go over board with tamping because it can't hurt. Thanks for checking out my pics.

The pool coping was original, and connected to the pool tile like i stated in the begining of the thread.

Twitchy, on the patio portion of this job, did you lay the soldier course first?

No i run the pattern first. Then i line up my soldiers on top of the pattern and scrib a line so all of my cuts are perfect.

Another pool patio that was completed torward the end of the 08'season. We use cambridge roundtable 6x9's. The patio color is toffee onyx and the border and coping is natural onyx. I installed a circle kit in the larger area of the patio to break up the pattern.

Great work! I like how the second one with the slide came out, espically the coping. Hopefully I will be able to do that tomy pool this year if enough money comes in
