We plow alot of mid-sized commercial parking lots (Office-park, banks, small business, hotels)

So we have specialized equipment for that. Thought maybe you might want to see that stuff.

Did you get the ice storm before the snow.

Here the ice is still terrible.Today was the first day that the county grader could move,it was finally melting some today, plus they got the ice bits on the grader so they could cut or groove the ice to get traction.

Sounds like some more on the way tonight here and tomorrow.:usflag:

How do you like those smaller loaders? What do you think of those pushers? I have used a 906 Cat with a plow and was very happy with it.

A couple of questions on your tailgate spreader on your pickup.

App. how fast do you travel while spreading, and how long until you fill up?

Also, what setting do you use, somewhere in the middle?

Volvo L20Bs are awesome. Lots of power, yet small enough to go anywhere. I have 3 10ft Arctic boxes. They clean down to bare pavement everytime. Thus reducing my salt expenses.
We used to get alot of crap about using "cute little Loaders" but when our compitition sees how much better my lots look than thiers, the little loaders get respect.

I Have more snow equipment that the pics.

2 ASV skids
2 Volvo L20Bs
2 Isuzu dumps with 8ft Boss poly w/wings
1 F350 dump with 8ft Boss poly w/wings
1 Nissan frontier with 6'8" Snoway w/wings
1 Deere 4520 with loader and landpride rear blade
1 Artic Cat 400 (Sidewalk plow)
Multiple snow pushers (3 Artics and 1 expandaning custom box)
Snow buckets.
Snow Blowers
All trucks have sanders

I have 40 Mid sized commercial accounts. On a 2" snow fall I can service them all in 4 to 6 hrs including sand and salt. on larger snows, Well who knows.

I'am surprised those little cabovers have enough traction :dizzy:

The only contractor with a MTL skid steer is busy plowing parking lots and peoples subdivisions. Someone spotted a skid steer high tailing it down the road today.

Speed depends, Usually 5 mph. Depends on if I am putting down a traction adgent or a melting mix

Spreader speed varries as well. Usually set at 32. but also depends on wht I am trying to accomplish.

Dont ever make fun of a cab over. They will out push any 4x4 (on a flat surface) ANY DAY!! They push like a bulldozer and turn like one to.

I used to get crap about them last year all the time. Then my lead guy took a video of it plowing, opinions changed in a big hurry.

Plus with 4 to 5 tons of salt in the bed helps out alot.

Once we found an application where the could excell (Nice open flat parking lots instead of street plowing with hills) we struck gold with them.

Plus, everybody in town knows them. I am the only one that uses them as dumps, or plow trucks. We get work calls because of the all the time.

Got any pictures of the expanding/custom box? Do you treat your salt?

The small loaders are faster than a skid but with much better visablity and you don't mind putting long hours in one.

I will get some pics of it up. It slides in and out, going from 8ft to 12ft. Its got a floating mount so it floats independent from the machine, its got steel faced rubber trips on itm and the box ends flex, so the will bounce over curbs and such.

I bought the box last year from a local fabricator who built it. I added a few ideas then, then this fall I added $3500 worth of repairs and improvements to make it is what it is today.

It works well in heavier snows (Wet) not as well in fluff (Dry, it comes through the slide slots)

Cab overs.

One has a vortec 350 the other has a Isuzu diesel

Interesting. It is easy to spend money on plows, it seemed like every year a couple large got spent on my big plow. I have been looking for a used SnoVantage to experiment with.

How do the cabovers tow? My Dad would like to have one but everyone tells him they don't tow well.

The W4 pulls fine, but the engine is about shot (208000 miles roughly) Its going to get replaced this winter. The W3500 doesn't have any wiring for a trailer, but we use it to pull the straw blower trailer. Its iusually got a full load of straw in the bed and on the trailer. It seems to handle it fine.

Both my cab overs started as box trucks. The W4 I picked up for $3500 with 198000 on it and the W3500 had 79000 and I picked it up for under $7000. B oth have been good trucks, both have had some issues. but over all I wouldn't own anything else.

Soo come feburary I will start shopping for the replacement, but I have been thinking about keeping the higher milage one and turnig it into a flat bed or something. We beat the heck out of them as dumps. So I figure I could get a bit more life out of it if we didn't use it everyday (or as hard).

Peterson,

Are those mounts on the cabovers custom or were they puchased? I wanted to hang a blade on our 2003 Isuzu/gmc 5500 but was told there is no mount made and everyone who has attempted fabrication had serious issues. I have an 8 acre lot thats as flat as a pancake, would be perfect, I figured a couple tons of gravel in the bed for ballast and it would be fine, everyone laughed................got those videos somewhere ? I have a few guys I'd like to see eating crow!!!!

Didnt read page two before posting earlier........oops.

Stuve- Our 5500 pulls an 18ft enclosed trailer loaded to the gills, three wright standers a 36wb, 2 wheel blowers, backpacks, trimmers, fuel, it tows well. It's a little dfferent backing up a trailer but not a big deal. It's a diesel and we love it. 12 ft grain body on ours.........

Peterson- do you ever have issues with the smaller loaders when the snow is heavy and wet? We had a smaller teceuchi loader on a site last week and never having used one before I was surprised it lacked the traction-weight to push heavy snow, it was a 10ft protech box so I don't think it should have had a problem, machine had like 60 hrs on it , tires like new. Just didn't wanna do it. I've pushed with larger loaders and backhoes with bigger boxes and never had issues like this...........thoughts? We dumped the little loader in favor of a 4x4 backhoe for future events on this site..........

Mounts are custom. We started with Boss RT3 mounts and I had a fab shop make them up. I will take pics of them as well.

As for the loaders. We have 0 problems. We run 10 and 12ft pushers. But Artics and my custom box mount different and have steel cutting edges. Rubber edges tend to cause to much drag, thus robbing power. The mounts allow the box to move indepently of the loader. That way you can keep all 4 wheels on the ground, instead of lifting the fronts and reducing traction.

Another key is to keep the pushes short, and try to stay in fresh, undesturbed snow. The stuff thats been windrowed or driven in is always more dense and heavy. thats where we had trouble last season. but we learned from our mistakes and now No trouble.

RT3s are the mount that the plow A frame hooks into. The Rt3 is what is mounted to the truck via the truck mounting kit.
