my saws muffler modded and description on how to do it. really simple. just drill where I did. dont even need to take plate off. and where I drilled you avoid the screen back there. Makes saw run better and cooler, and of course more macho sounding :weightlifter::laugh:

Hey thanks josh, I see for the 290 you drilled 3 holes, about what size bit should I use to drill mine out? Did you have to mess with the carb adjustments at all once you did the muffler mod?

no problem. I am not sure what size bit it was to be honest the marking was filed off for some reason. but it is up to you how big a hole you want to drill. problly 3/8 and 1/2 will work just fine and no I did not have to mess around with anything after. Small saw died a few times but was junk in gas. They are running a lot better now and much cooler.

You should have to richen that saw up a little after modding the muffler... by opening it up it's probably running on the lean side right now. Don't want your saw to go boom on you. Oh, and stay away from that old gas... another good way to make it go boom.

Love it. It's the biggest saw (or was at the time) that you could get the quick chain adjuster on... I was leary of it at first, but it's held up great. cut probably 50-60 face cords of wood with it. I'm getting the itch for some new toys though, I can see a 441 or 660 in my future... and maybe something like your little 180... can never have enough Stihl stuff... :cool2:

hey thanks for the info man. I am either geting a 270 or 026/260. like I daid need something lighter. I actually dont have a lawn business like you. Just help out a few friends and my parents, hopefully pick up a couple mre people to help out but yea the 270 would be grerat for me for this. My 290 weights almost as much as my br600 (22 lbs or so) :dizzy: gets heavy after a whiule!

hey yea the 180 is a great saw for imbing and light work but i was hoping it would be big enough for 30 inch or so but its not. the 660 is a true beast. so much power

if you want i can send a few videos of my 180 for you towatch. just let me know
