What would brand of walk behind would anyone recommend using for high grass( foreclosed properties that have not been cut for a while) that would hold up well under rough cut conditions.
Thanks for any input!!!!!!!!!

Definitely sounds like the Realtors market in our areas LOL!!!
Just be prepared to spend about 8-12 man hours per property to get the 2' grass back down to 4" and presentable. I would think that first time thru regardless of time a minimal fee of $350 is not out of the question.
I have a source for bush-hogging and hes charging us $165/hr with a 3hr minimum to knock these properties down this season. Then we can come thru with the rakes and mowers to clean it up if necessary.

I'm pretty sure Hustler makes a product exactly for that purpose, it should be more than enough to work with.

Charge more for the first visit and you van use mainly any type of commercial mower.
I have use Lazers, Dixie Choppers, and Ronsome Bobcats to cut 4' tall plus crap down.
You run through on the highest setting first, then lower the deck to mulch the crap up.

Just be sure to get a good going over everything so you can watch for crap you don't want to mow over, bricks, cinder blocks, car parts, tools, anything that will be bad to mow over, those blades and spindles aren't free, ya know.

you might want to look into a DR. Brush mower, their pro model is $2200 and has a 30" width and a 15 hp kawasaki v-twin engine.~NaTe

I don't think there is grass tall enough that a Dixie Chopper can't mow.

I use a Toro 44" wbh to knock it down then come in and clean it up with the Walker. Cheaper to have the Toro hit hidden crap than the Walker.

BillyGoat has recently introduced a very nice looking walkbehind brush hog type mower. It looks a lot heavier built than the DR thing. I think it cuts about 30" wide and is supposed to cut about anvthing you can push over with it. The one I looked at had a honda engine, but a B & S is avail for less money. I am thinking of getting one for code enforcement mowing for our town.:)

Mowingman,
Check out this site, they have a power unit with attachements, www.salsco.com
kutnkru,
I took a job like this 2 years ago. Using a Brush-hog on lawn grass is the worst thing to do, it just makes a mess. The tractor tires matt the grass down and there is nothing you can do. I think it would have been easier to do it all starting with the deck up high and just going back and forth, raking it up to haul away as you go until you get it cut. It took several weeks before it started looking like a lawn. It was a learning expereance.

gene gls,
Thanks, the Salsco unit looks almost exactly like the BillyGoat machine I saw. It is close enough that it looks like someone has been copying someone.:)

I'd have to agree. There was a homeowners area (surprise, surprise) that they had let go until probably July a few years ago. The grass was VERY tall and the weeds were taller. As I drove by I noticed a guy on a DC mowing, ( the only time I have seen a DC in this area...and I haven't seen it since?) 1/2 later the place was cut and really looked nice. Unfortunately, the homwowners then began doing it "in house" and the DC has not been back.

Check out the Hustler Hog. Its like a commercial mower but a little bigger and alot more stronger. Its manufactured for jobs like you described.

$165 per hour is way out of line... He'd be in the soup line trying to charge that much out here.
