In 1998 the Toro company purchased the Exmark company.

Exmark is still different in many ways

They use the same tractor but the decks are very different

They have a different reserch and development crew

And they still keep secrets from each other

ITS KINDA LIKE SAYING FORD OWNS JAGUAR

I think both are owned by a parent company, but they manufacture under the same old names.

Toro has nothing to do with Exmark, but they like to steal designs from eXmark.

Toro bought eXmark for the sole purpose of making a toro mid mount ztr.

Now they barrowed a few decks from eXamrk for the fixed deck T-bar's but there is no toro influence on the eXmark side from toro.

BTW Toro can't have the new ECS or there would only be one company.

so, basically it is similar to textron's owning bunton, ransomes, jacobsen, and ryan? textron owns all of these, but they are run separately. that how it works?

Yep, that's how it works. They are direct competitors with each other.

This is what Exmark said in the Exmark Forum:
...............................
Almost three years a go Toro did purchase Exmark Mfg. Exmark remains a subsidiary of Toro. Exmark engineers and manufacturer's all of its riding products as well as the Toro riding products (with exception of Outfront Z).

There are several differentiating features but the main difference is in our cutting decks.

Walk behind product are a little more complicated to explain. With the exception of the 21" Metro we engineer every walk behind in the line-up. To make a long story short, Exmark has grown at such a high rate with its riding products that for a one-year period we utilized some of Toro's manufacturing capacity for production of a few of our walk-behinds products.

Exmark has very much remained untouched by the Toro Corporation. As you know, we have been very successful and as long as we continue to perform, we will retain our independence.

i sure hope this continues as it is. ive seen some real funky changes made in the offices at the top rung of the ladder.
electrolux as an example.heck they might even own toro by now.
seems like the own everything else.
course they make good decisions to . the husquevarner[sp]
ztr seems like a fine machine.
it really all boils dn to what they think makes the most profit.
