Just kidding, but today I dropped my GF's Equinox off at the dealer and what do they have sitting by the service center? An all white crew cab long bed duramax 2500 HD wt silverado. Why did I have to see that? Now I'm going to look at one tomorrow after work. I cant decide if I have out grown my paid off 1500 and should even be looking at one. I'm also looking at an 07 Isuzu NPR:dizzy: BTW I'm now 24!!!!!!!

More of a Ford fan myself, but hey if you feel the need for a bigger truck, by all means go for it man!

I got a silver color truck and don't really like it, shows scratches too easily. I think for a plain work truck you can't beat white.

Not a fan of white at all, but GM is deff giving some great deals. Worth checking out. There nice trucks just forget getting decent gas milage unless the 09's are better

I would get an NPR and keep the 1500 as a daily driver. I love my new NPR... should have gotten it years. COongrats on the bday, I turned 24 a month and a day ago.

Well hes looking at a diesel so GAS mileage isnt an issue...And the Duramaxs are the only emmision friendly diesels getting 20 mpg.

Silver trucks do show scratches. I don't really like white trucks because they look too plain and you have to wash them regulary.

I don't want to start an MPG war, but i get 22 highway if its set at 65. I have an 08 crew cab long bed diesel. It is possible. You have oversized tires which will take away from mpg.

By all means, go for it! You won't be sorry. These trucks have some serious power behind them. You'll see just how different it is then your 1500. Night and Day.

I seroiusly doubt my tires take that much off. Now maybe since you have a newer one. But my tires are not even that much bigger. Not enough to drop the gas by 8-10 mpg under you. If so i will go out tom and buy new tires. mine is ext cab reg bed i think maybe short with 6.6 turbo and the chip. Never seen much over 15 mpg and deff not towing. dont get me wrong i love the truck and the power is ridiculus but no way on the mp. Maybe better then the others, except my old ford diesel got 20 mpg easy.

You should be getting about the same as me without the stacks and stock tires because you don't have the DPF on your truck. I'm sure the tires, stacks, performance chip, and driving style will drop it that low.

ryry278
12-29-2008, 08:11 PM
Explain DPF? I dunno what that is sorry it thats a stupid question i am geniunely interested how to get better mpg. I am getting a cold air intake i know that. And the tires are not much bigger then the stock and like the guy somewhere on here said today i asked about getting a regular tire and what that would do and they said not much to nothing. The stacks not sure how that hurts mpg but that was not my choice anyways and not paying to fix it until the bottom rusts out. THe exhaust is all stock except it is routed up and the big tips

ryry278
12-29-2008, 08:16 PM
also the chip is supposed to help the MPG not hurt it. It is set on economy which programs for the best mpg possible. And as far as my driving i am very conservative. Even though i am young i brake only when i have to and ease up to stops, never jump the line, and use cruise control as much as possible. I drive at 65 on the interstate also and hardly ever brake

The DPF is a Filter on 2007+ diesel trucks that collects all the black smoke and diesel smell. Ever notice how you cant smell the diesel fumes on the new trucks? THe filter catches all of that. Once per tank it burns it all out by sucking in more fuel. On average it uses about 1 gallon of fuel more, of which youll get 10mpg on the highway for about 20 minutes before its cleaned out. The exhaust gets so hot, you could fry an egg on it.

Petr your getting 20+ MPG with your DPF Duramax?...I am looking at a 2008 Duramax..sticker is $49,000...they have it red tag priced down to $33,000...its a short bed though and to me a short bed would be useless

ryry278
12-29-2008, 08:36 PM
Dirt i heard from several people they get good MPG but if you read through alot of the threads on here you will see i aint the only Duramax driver to only be getting 12 mpg

Dirt Digger2
12-29-2008, 08:45 PM
thats what i am noticing...some guys get 17-18..other guys get 12-13...some are over 20...seems a little weird to me that there is such a huge difference...even if you are smashing the throttle at green lights it shouldn't be a 10 MPG difference between 12 and 22

ryry278
12-29-2008, 08:51 PM
Exactly my thoughts. I guess i would just see if the dealer will let you take it home for a day or weekend and fill her up and go at it until its empty and let us know the results lol. But i dunno i have a chip and everything and i cant imagine what the mpg would be without it.

Maybe, but my city driving might be very different then yours. We have stop signs every city block and normally dont drive over 25mph.

I don't know but I haven't seen 20mpg on my 08 lmm, the last tank I got 13mpg and that was all empty no trailer. With the dpf the mileage is about 3mpg worse from everyone I have spoken to that has cut it out. Also the new reflash is garbage, I lost 2 mpg after it so the dpf is coming off mine in the spring and putting a turbo back exhaust and tuner on. As far as the stacks they will not effect the mpg the only thing it will do is make it louder and drop the egt's which is a good thing.

If you need help try going to duramaxforum.com there are alot of guys getting 12-15mpg on the new duramax. Tuner and turbo back exhaust are a good start if you want to gain mpg on the new diesels.

Funny all the bickering about fuel millage and I could care less about it. As long as I can pull my trailer and a 24 ft. flatbed equipment trailer. I kinda want a single wheel 1 ton chevy. I would also get a wrap done on the white truck to because my best friend owns a sign shop! I'd wrap the Isuzu the same way.

I always heard the LLY's didnt get that great of fuel mileage. My LBZ will get 18 HWY. My best was 19.6. It is very possible by the way. Put your bullydog on the extreme setting and keep your foot out of it, and you will get some great fuel mileage.

That economy tune is crap! I got worst mileage when i had mine on that. The highest setting was the trick for me. A bully dog programmer "re-tunes" your truck. By reprogramming it. The extra power on the big tune makes the truck move alot easier with less pedal. So therefore you dont have to push it as hard to accelerate. So therefore less fuel used. I could talk your head off about this but i cant stand typing ridiculously long posts. If you have more questions about the diesels, PM me. I dont mind being detailed in those.

If you want a mpg tune for a 08 duramax go with ppe or EFI live, or just to get rid of the dpf and no extra hp it's quad. The high settings are ok on mpg but you have to remember to baby it because if you don't have your trans built up, it will be toast and the truck will go into limp mode.

Yes I know his is a 05 I stated it if someone wants to get rid of the dpf. The same still applies to the 05 about ppe or efi live they seem to be the best for the gm trucks. The safe zone is around 90-100 hp extra for a stock trans anything over is pushing it.

ryry278
12-30-2008, 12:03 AM
So is it worth it then to switch it over if it is going to tear my tranny up?

SimonCX
12-30-2008, 12:07 AM
As long as you watch how how drive you will be fine, if you start flooring it alot you're going to need alot more than a modded trans with 250 hp extra.

It wont tear your tranny up if you keep your foot out of it, and dont tow with it on that setting.

Forgot about mentioning that, but by far the worst thing you can do is give a employee a truck on a hot tune, he will be happy but you won't. If you plan on running the crazy larry tune it wouldn't be a bad idea to get a set of good guages if you don't already have them.

Yeh when towing throw it down to economy, once you unhook, go back to larry. Altho with my dodge i would leave it on C Larry and forget. So therefore id be towing my 5k# trailer on crazy larry and wonder why there was so much smoke coming out! But it was a cummins 6 spd so it could handle it. I wouldnt recommend this with a dmax. Man i miss that truck...
