The John Deer is a 4520 It has the hydrostat trans. I recomend the hydrostat because it has the forward/reverse pedals. It is the perfect tractor for grading lots, moving large loads of dirt, or moving large loads of mulch. I would like a bobcat though

Elks
12-30-2008, 11:58 PM
The kubota's weigh a ton. They seem to leave tire tracks in the yards. The exmark's seem to cut the best. I have been thinking about trying out a walker.

I dont plan on selling the box truck but i do plan on buying another bigger truck in the spring as well as a 20 foot enclosed trailer. The box truck can fit one midmount and one walk behind or two midmounts with one mower parked with the back tires on the ramp.

The Trailer with the Johndeer on it is a 18 foot. It is kinda tight with the bush hog on it. I normaly dont do bush hog work. It fits better on the trailer with the woods power rake/ soil conditioner on it.

Hi, I'd be interested in an info on the sod attatchment for the front of the Bobcat mt, is this a bobcat attatchment or aftermarket. Also what are the size of the rolls that work with it width and length. Thanks

Elks
12-29-2010, 12:50 PM
I purchased attatchment plates for the mt and welded a sod layer attatchement layer to it. The layer use to be for a three point hitch. I will take some close up picks of the attatchment. It works great. It can lay 30 or 42 in rolls. The machine can handle between 20 and 30 yard rolls depending on if the sod is wet.

Just throw the straw out about a foot and a half or two past the border of the bed, then slowly blow it under with your back pack blower. It takes a little practice but after a while it will look perfect every time.

The sod farm can cut the rolls with as much sod on the rolls as you like.
The problem can be that you machine may not be able to pick up that much weight. No matter how big the rolls are you order, you still cut down the time it takes you to lay the sod and the amount of labor that is involved

That truck is a 2500hd with the short bed. I mostly use it for a personal truck and for giving estimates. The dump that we have is a 3500 with a 12ft bed. It works great for getting up leaves as well as for hauling matterials for landscape jobs. We also have a f250 crew with a long bed. It is used for pulling a trailer for landscape maintenence.

Got to love cookie cutters, nice and easy. Few questions for ya

The Deere tractor loader, whats the specs on it? How much did it run you if you care to share?

I take it the sod in a few of those pics is dormant. Thats got to be a tough sell to a customer, thinking its just dead grass.

the john deer is a 4520. It runs around 32000 with the front end loader. I rented a smaller john deer before i bought that one. The 4520 was the perfect fit for the landscape jobs that i do. The front end loader has plenty of power for moving heavy dirt, rocks, and even leftover concrete from construction

All the sod farms around cut sod in big rolls. Lawn Pro, Spring Branch Turf, and Mackiwean turf farm are just a couple places in my area. I think they weigh around 1000 lbs. I will ask about the weight

I have driven the kubota and it just dosent compete with the speed of the front end loader and just couldnt get use to the hydrostat system. If you want a cab, bobcat has a tractor compariable to my johndeer. I actually thought about trading my johndeer in on it.

It hasnt been that hard to sell the sod while it is dormant.

Swampy
01-14-2011, 10:31 PM
It hasnt been that hard to sell the sod while it is dormant.

Is it just one of your area "norm's"? If I took dormant sod onto a site up here, the the home owner would give you this  look.

You got some specs on that bobcat, I had a buddy rent a smaller one (about the size of your deere) and he didn't like it. I'm looking at putting a tractor together with either a snow plow or pusher on the front with a blower hanging off the back for winter work, then using it during the summer months for landscaping/brush cutting.

I figured, back on the winter use of a tractor, as well since I just road my skid loader between accounts instead of loading and unloading it. But its only a single speed, costs way to much to buy a newer skid loader, seems to float over snow, it chews up tires every 6-8 months. That a tractor would be less wear and tear long term.

it just does not look right!?

plus, here, that is one serious fire hazzard in the summer, wow, no way would that be ok, under pine trees here that were not cleaned out at least every several years i have seen spark and catch fire. could have been something from the machine, but that is the point.

i mean, your landscapes are nice and tidy, just cant get over the mulch.

We use to have two zd326s. We got to many complaints about how heavy they where as they left tracks on all the lawns. We now use hustlers. The kubotas were great on fuel, and had tons of power for cutting tall grass and vacuming up leaves. I still have a protero bagger off one of them. the blower didnt hold up but the clamshell hopper still looks new.

cool, but are some of those too close together? i dont know those plants, so i have no idea. i personally like crowding though a bit.

i hear ya on the kubotas being too heavy, we had those complaints on medium and smaller jobs, so we only use them for large acreage now.

yea i think it is a little crowded. I did most of the landscaping and the home owner loves annuals and perennials, they put them everywhere. most of the time everything looks great.

I have been in business since 1997. Took a break for college in between there for a degree in business management. Durring the growing season i normally have four guys working. Two per crew. I also share a secretary with my dad who sells insurance, works out pretty good. We do mostly maintenence for hoa's, a little commercial and residential. The landscape side has dropped off allot since the economy went down, but we get a couple landscape jobs each month. We are really pushing the mantinence side right now.
