:usflag:Those who have seen the wall I hope you enjoy the pillars. For those who are seeing all this for the first time I hope you enjoy it all. I love compliments but love even more complaints and suggestions to help in my strive to produce great scapes for the customers. I do want to give a little pat on the back to me for not having a block chopper and having to hand chisel everything but know that is where I have to start to become a real landscape artist. Thank you once again for your time and everyone have a GREAT NEW YEAR!!! HERE IS TO US IN THE GREEN INDUSTRY TO MOVE BEYOND THIS DOWN ECONOMY YEAR AND MAKE THE NEXT YEAR THE BEST WE HAVE EVER HAD!!!:usflag::weightlifter::cool2:

Not sure what im looking at. Why all the pillars? Are you going to sften things up with plantings?

Pillars were request of homeowner. Plantings will be in spring. The two smaller pillars indicate a step down off the wall to go see the horses. A bench and plantings will be down in the area in the spring. The 3 big pillars indicate the entrance to the front door and also a place for her to sit stuff on when unloading car. The 2 big ones close together indicate begin of sidewalk for those who park to the right of them. The 2 big pillars far apart indicate the entrance from the parking area to the left of them. I hope I answered the question right. Thank you for the comments.

Are you not going to cap the pillars with blue stone or something to help finish them off? I see where the design is going but archtectually it seems to miss for me. Capped pillars with lighting and such would help. And of course the spring plantings a must. Just needs an extra touch.

She has a big light on a pole right behind the parking area so no lights and she likes how the caps match everything. I gave a lot of options and this is what she wanted. I am ready for spring because I just want to set the wall off with plantings. She wasn't forsure about spring but in her last email she has had so many compliants over the holidays that she wants me out there for the plantings and has passed my business cards along for other projects in the spring.

Well thats whats most important. The pillars that bother me the most are the ones near the house. Their not capped and look unfinished. Nice bluestone caps would give some architecture to them. Plus im sure when everything is greened up the entire area will look better especially with new plantings. The job just looks unfinished to me. A happy customer is a good customer. Good work.

Have a great new year yourself. Keep it up. It takes time but after a while you really get to know what makes the job stand out.

I agree that the pillars are just kinda "there." I understand the logic behind their placement, but they still don't really seem to fit so well architecturally.
I do, however, look forward to seeing everything tied together better with the plantings... I think that you could really make a big difference by doing so.
Like Punt said; a happy client is a good client. There are times when we do things that don't "float my boat" as much as they could, but the client is happy... That's part of being in business, though.

Personally I would have done it different but you have to do what the customer wants, they are the ones paying and if they wanted it like that and like it thats what counts.

I agree that the design misses the mark, IMO. It does not have an integrated look. Also, those short stout pillars are the perfect height and placement to back a vehicle into by accident.

landscapers (hardscapers) don't do what the customers want....lawnmowing guys do.
The customer generally has no clue what they want or what they want is home depot narrow minded stuff. See this all the time when customer gets 3 quotes. One is generally very boring and show little knowledge and experience. Another shows greater knowledge and so on.

Not ture, I have had clients that I can tell them a thousand times it's not going to look right but they still have it in there head thats the way it has to be. Sure it would be nice if clients said do what you think, but it doesn't always work that way. I have had a couple that I did, that to me did not look right but to them it was exactly the way they wanted it. Some clients it doesn't matter what you say, they are the ones paying you to do the job not the other way around, everybody has different taste and sometimes you just have to work with it.

I guess you must know everything and no one is able to have opinons. You must be one of those guys that clients complain about that you wouldn't do what they wanted and they found someone else. Get off your high horse and join the real world.
