Brake Question

In my quest for a new trailer I am kicking around the idea of re furbishing my existing trailer....The one thing I do not like is the lackluster performance of the electric breaks.
The trailer is a pintle, 14000 lb capacity.
What is the scoop on better braking? ie hydraulic disk or drum?

I am interested in this as well.I use electric but they require alot of maint to keep them stopping good.
