Just picked up a couple of magnetic signs with my logo and number on the side. Do these actually work...I figure it will help when I am actually working in the yards working. People will see the signs on the truck and stop, hopefully! Anyone ever get any business from this form of advertising?

advertising on a truck is a great way to get your name out there. if you make a professional sign, it makes you look real professional. my father owns a touchless car wash, and over the years working for him, the magnetic signs have added up that we've found in the bay lol. just make sure to take them off when you go through a wash.

Yes, you will get people approach you asking about your services.
It's not always the best form of advertising though, because sometimes the job that the person wants done is not one that you would like to do. ex: Their property is located in an area that you don't want to service.
With magnetic signs or truck lettering you can't target the specific lawns that you want. But it does get your name out there.
And in the beginning I do think that is very important.
I've had magnetic signs on my truck for 3 yrs now. They have brought a fair share of work. My best work though, has come from word of mouth. I had my signs made up professionally. I think they cost about $50.00. All in all I feel it was a good investment.

Will they add a touch of professionalism to your outfit -yes.
What I did with mine was took them off nightly and dried off the underside with a soft towel so it didnt inhibit the rusting process. Nothing worse than to see a guy take his signs off halfway thru a season and theres small rust spots from improper care.

Put signs on the side of the trailer to avoid the rust monster.
If you do put them on your truck be sure and wax the place where you put the sign. It will help to prevent the rust.

I've had my door signs for close to 2 years.. Never had a single call from them.

Uhhh, Tom, you gotta put them on the truck buddy. They won't work sitting on the garage bench.LOL :)
My truck was lettered with vinyl, same theory as the magnetics as far as advertising. They have helped me get work, a good handful of people have said they read my truck and let me know that was where they seen me and got my number. I would say if your in business and want to get more work, it should definately help you.

Randy.. Believe me... They do not sit on a garage bench. They are on 24/7.
It's disappointing.. I'm hesitant to do the sides of my enclosed trailer.
We used to have mag. signs on our trucks, and they would blow off occasionally...

Tom, I'm curious. When you get new work/customers, do you ask them where they heard of you? My guess is you do since you seem pretty sure in your statement, but thought I'd ask anyway.

My old truck (to the left) had magnetic signs on it for over 10 years while it sat in a driveway. No rust underneath.....but the sun faded everything but the doorsign area. If the paint doesn't have any chips or cracks I don't think you have to remove them often. Maybe just for the weekly wash. But beware of the sun fade !

last yr I bought a new truck so I didn't want to ruin the paint under the mag. signs. I made plates and mounted them to the sides of my trailer. I also do pressure washing and each year I would have a few people say they saw my sign on the BACK of my old van. I am moving the sign to the back of the trailer since I had no calls refferring to "I saw your sign on your truck" , last yr.
