What is Dimensions? How does it compare to Scotts brand pre emergent product? I have a good bit of crabgrass in my yard and want to hit it pretty hard this spring. Or are there other products that are better to kill grassy weeds?

Hire a certified professional... and not the cheapest one.

Reason being...

application rate, time of application, watering after application, etc. are all important when it comes to pre-emergents. Maybe even more important than the "brand" of product used.

When getting bids ask the "professional" if there are any special things you should do before or after they apply the pre-emergent... if they tell you to water it in within 24 hours after application they probably know what they are talking about. If they know enough to tell you that they should also know what active ingredients to use, when to use them, and what rate to apply them at. Hire them...

Scotts uses pendimethalin--an old product, fairly good. Almost all the other brands now contain Dimension. Newer and a little better--less messy because it does not stain. Less chemical is needed to do the job, no odor.

For serious crabgrass problems apply twice 8 weeks apart. (About April and June), and don't use the minimum rate. Use the maximum allowed on the label, if you like to be sure.
