So Im not totally sure if this thread should be in another forum...but since it's somewhat lawn & irrigation related...i figured I'd put it here to start...
So every summer I throw this huge party at my house...I have a decent sized hill in my front yard...and we make a big 125ft slip n slide down the hill! I put 5 Hunter PGP's up on grade stakes running down the side of the slide to keep it wet...needless to say it is pretty insane!!! So this summer the party was in August...and it was REALLY HOT that day...i didn't even have the slide set up for 24 hours...and look what happened.....

My guess is that there was some sort of film on the plastic, maybe a mold release or an anti static powder.....
Could have been just from the heat created under the plastic burned the fescue.
I agree, looks to have been worth it.

We grafitti up the lawn too...the party is called BUMPFEST...Bump is my nickname...that took a few weeks to grow out...and the lawn came back after about a month where the slide was...it was definitely worth it! I'll be doing it all over again next summer...

Heat. Grass cools itself through evaporation, just like we do. Grass gets covered, no evaporation, just like if you wear rubber gloves on a hot day. It bet it came back pretty quickly, looks to have just scorched the top growth.
Looks like a blast BTW.

That looks to me like another couple of add on services. Lawn painting for special events, temporary slip and slides where possible. That's something you don't see every day. Bet the margins are better on that then cutting grass too.
Thanks!!

Hey what kinda tarp are you using? We used house wraps last time but we were looking for something bigger and more durable/ How did you stake it too? Every year we have a huge slip in slide on our hill and firework war July 4th. yea i know dangerous but what can you do

Dude, havent seen a slip and slide like that since my college days. Put a couple of drops of dawn soap at the top and see how far off the tarp into the grass you can slide.

I have had a lot of heros in my life, superman, batman, the hulk, wonderwoman, but you are now my new hero. That party must have been the SH*T!!! I could only imagine the hangover the next day. I will make you a deal. If I can come next summer, I will steal a beer truck of your choice, buy the traps, and even throw some seed in the cab for the repairs. No one throws parties like that around here. The neighbors are always calling the cops if people show up with a case of brew. I need to move:cry:

Next year try Tyvek house wrap for the slide, very durable and slippery, it also allows air movement and some water to seep thru. Water the grass before you put the Tyvek down and halfway thru flip it over to a new spot. We used plastic for years and only had a problem once in awhile when it was really really hot out. Presoak the spot before you set it up.

just fertilize with a decient amount of nitrogen. make sure it a fast release. try a 20-5-5. that should green it up in no time. but not to much or it will burn it like it was.

It's a thick sheet of plastic from Home Depot...it was a huge roll. I think it is 4 mil thick?? It was the thickest they had...works awesome! Our first year we used a tradtional blue tarp...but it didn't really work as good as the stuff we have now.

Yeah never heard about it before, i'm sure i must know someone there. I can round up a few more good people. You don't invite clients right? hahaha
No sanding for me. Some places open so late that the lots were already wet. checked them though. other places are on call, saving any money they can.
Yup the town was out. My accounts are places of business offices and residential no CVS, stores or banks.

Wow, I know what I'm doin on my parent's back yard this year!!! It's about twice that steep, and the slide could end in their pond, hmm..... I been lookin at houses in town for my first place, then I see things like that and it makes me reconsider that big time in favor of a place out in the country like I wanted to do at first. I wonder how much of a road trip it would be to your place from kansas.....
