You've got to be sh!ttin me! That happened to me about 6 years ago! We were out in a field splitting headge, the logsplitter was hooked up to a PTO drive off a tractor so we had lots of power to the splitter head. Well the guy running the tractor hit the lever to early while my hand was still in there and the splittler smashed my right hand. Had to amputate my pinky because it formed gang green.

wasout splitten wood training our new guy on what to do, (turned into what not to do) i looked up for a split second, looked back down just intime to see my hand get crushed. no it didnt hurt i didnt feel anything for about 10 min then the pain was so great i passed out. lost the pinki, the ring and middle finger were reattached after 6 hrs on the table. i still have no movement or feeling in my ring finger, middle and pointer have feeling in some spots and im in pt so i can maybe use them again.

At least you only lost one finger. That's a pretty bad picture. I think it would be great if all new hires doing work like this should have to sit down and look at pictures like this for a full half hour before his first day, just so he knows that this kind of stuff CAN happen to him.

I have a saying: hurt? its not if; its when and how bad.

Good GOD. That's horrible! Had to look closer to realize that there was a digit missing there! wow...
Just curious, you are typing... I bet that's a fun adventure if you were a good typer that used all your fingers on both hands before.
Just amazing how fast bad things like that can happen.

Ouchy, when I run the splitter the control lever is right there by the ram. I tell the guy don't hold it end to end, but hold it side to side, meaning hold around the bark while putting it on the beam, so just in case I get in a hurry...

who was the idiot on the controls, opps thats right:o.
Sorry to hear about your hand, what sucks is it sounds like you are big on safety. Just goes to show no matter how hard you try you can never be 100% safe. Really sorry to hear about your hand.

How did your hand turn out? Did you get the feeling and use back? I know you bought some new equipment because of this accident.

1st let me say i hope you have a full recovery god willing. 2nd i know your pain and frustration, i broke my leg in 6 places in april, no walking for 3 monhs, horrible pain. I just had surgery to replace my acl 10days ago. This is still from my leg being crushed. I was back at work in 3 days, just because i had to be. Im walking now and on road to complete recovery. The pt has helped mpre than you can imagine. I do it whenever i have free time. Leg lifts, squats, whatever. Good luck my friend i will say a prayer for you and your family..............and a warning on picks would help, my stomach flipped over.

I thought I was the only one to do that About 10 years ago I lost my left thumb to a log splitter doctors tried to resew it but it was too far gone they wanted to put a toe in place of my thumb but I wasn't willing to try that worst thing about the whole deal is the cold weather really makes it hurt bad other than that I can do anything I need to without a thumb

Its comming along, there is going to be another surgery in the spring, not sure if they are going to try more repair work on the ring finger or just remove it, using anything that vibrates still hurts like hell  but im learning how to deal with the pain but im back to worken part time atleast. wait'n for the snow now so i can do some plowing and make some money :laugh:
