About to buy a Big TEX 14ft dual axle...here in central PA I have about only 2 choices...Car Mate and Big TEX...alot of you have said Car Mate is junk...so this 14ft is listed at $2000....looks stronger than Car Mate...detailed nicely also. I don't usually nickel and dime equipment dealers since I want fast and good service when I have an equip emergency...but...in reading a number of posts in the search I did it, seems $2000 is a bit pricey for this trailer...is this price too high? thanks much

hmmm...the only thing that looked shaky to me was ...the gate latch...it looks like it could flop open and land on somone's Lexus hood...anyone else know about these trailers?

Kitzy,
First off, is this a new or used trailer? Secondly, is this rig a landscape or enclosed trailer. IMHO, $2000.00 for a 14' open is too much. Try Bri-Mar, they make a great trailer. Locally made in south central Pa.
Send me mail if you need more dealer information. I reside in State College, Pa. right in the center of our fine state....

Last spring I bought a new Big Tex,
14'
Tandem axle
Four breaks
7,000 Lbs. GVW
Landscaper package
Four foot expanded metal sides all around,
3 Trimmer racks built in
Large Storage bin in front, built in
$2,813. plus tax
I have not had any problems with the gate latch.
I did have to have the gate reinforced b/c I guess the walker was to heavy and broke the welds on the expanded metal. But Big tex paid me for that.
I like the trailer.

Big Tex Trailers are everywhere down here. They make a good trailer in my opinion. However the price for that trailer with no brakes or tailgate ramp would be about $1000.00 here. I just bought a 7' x 18' with brakes and two, 6,000lb axles for 1900.00. The price you were quoted sounds way too high depending on how it is equiped.:)

I find that trailer prices in the north east are much higher that around the rest of the country. Trust me I shopped around, at first I was looking for a 7'X10' trailer and at I could not find it for less than about $1,199.00. I did find some in south New Jearsy for about $800.00 this is for a plain trailer, 18" sides no mesh no nothing. but it was about a five hour drive.

$2,000 For an open trailer? You better get K-Y Jelly rather than Vaseline!!!
The guy I get my trailers from charges me $1350. That is a 16 footer with brakes, new tires and rims and a gate. Also get a steel deck for that price.
Man, Kitzy, don't pay that price. Send the guy that I get my trailers from some business and I'll deliver it for you to Wheeling. Throw some gas cash my way and we got a deal!!

Do you find that the K-Y works better than Vaseline?

Oh, absolutely!!! Haven't you read the ad campaign they ran a few years back? "I use K-Y because it is more like me". Saw that one in Cosmopolitan!!:D
Besides, for the amount you are getting jacked on that trailer, they should at least throw in the more expensive stuff!!:D

I looked at some Big Tex trailers in Ohio last spring. Both dump and L/S ones. None of them had any paint on the bottom side of them and were they were rusting. Bri-Mar makes a good trailer and so does International.

Thanks to WRT Enterprises I was able to get in touch with a Bri Mar rep and a separate PA Intl Dealer here in PA. Bri Mar and PA Intl don't make a 14ft open utility. So will have to go with a 16. PA Intl dealer quoted $1750, full brakes, 7000gvw, split ramps, full anti corrosive and paint underneath, 15" tires. Dealer is in Pine Grove off I81...very helpful and straight talkers...if anyone wants their number email me..thanks for the help
