This is coming from a visitor to Florida, once a year for the last 3 years...
What I see is that living further inland (Orlando, even Tampa etc.) is probably the best bet. Lawns are larger and not so spread out along the coast. Not to mention the cost of living for you is much less (for a home) the further inland you go. Of course there's a million other guys that are doing the same thing, and from what I hear, the prices they get for lawns down there is even less than we get here (and that's SAD!). I don't know how they do it down there, costs so much to get a place to even live, let alone a place with room to have a trailer and equipment, and then be getting $15 a week for 1/2 your lawns...
Don't forget the HEAT. Everyone, including myself, wants to live down there this time of the year, but when it's 98 degrees with 98% realitive humidity, and rains every afternoon like clockwork, yikes!
Not trying to discourage you, still jealous of the people that get to live down there! To me, it would be hard to work much in the fall, winter, spring just because the weather is sooo nice. That is as long as the fall hurricanes don't get you...

The Tampa-St Pete area is saturated with lawn companies, however there is plenty of work to go around. The prices are very low for average residential because of the competition and the guy running his business out of the back of his truck without a license or insurance. The average residential runs from $60 to $75 per month. If you can land commercial or high end residential the profits are much better.
The weather can be brutal in the dog days of summer. With the heat and humidity the "feels like temps" can reach 110 on a daily basis, but you will get accustomed to it. I must say, it is beautiful in the winter though. The temp right now is in the upper 70s when much of the nation is experiencing snow fall. I wish you the best of luck in whatever place you choose to do business.
