I am settin here trying to figure out what all I need to get from Bobcat on rental for that clearing job, and come up with a rough price from the rental sheet I've got here. And it occured to me I have no clue what bucket to use on the 337 or 442, whichever is in stock. They've got 12in, 24in, and 36in. I was thinking the 36in for everything, but then it occured to me that there might be some stumps to dig up, and you wouldnt want to use a 36in for that, maybe a 12in so your not moving so much dirt?

What size buckets do yall think?

Btw this is my 2,500th post.. :cool2:

Any digging or is it strictly clearing? If no digging, the 36" will be alright. I ran a 337 with a 24" and that's almost the most bucket I'd recommend for that machine while seriously digging. Go with a 12" for the stumps.

I guess you havent read the "Clearing Techniques" thread, I posted. We got that one acre to clear, pile everything, dig a hole to put it all in and burn the brush in the hole, there might be some stumps in there I am not totally sure about which big tree's she wants taken out.. I havent ran a 337 with any thing bigger than a 12in, but Bobcat is giving such a great discount on rental right now, even better than what we got before, that we dont have a choice but use them, plus I dont want to charge these people alot, I want to work for this lady on her horse farm this summer, and her husband is a member of the same motorcycle club Dad is in...

Eh, run it, whatever. 337 isn't my favorite excavator, far from it, but it'll get the job done.

Does the machine have a Q/C? If so get a 36" and a 12" for the stumps. If no q/c I'd go for the 24" bucket. Although you can still dig up stumps with a 36", you just end up having a bigger hole to fill in.

JR, I've set back and keep my mouth shut about your clearing project, but explain to me why you have to have a skid and mini to do this project. Your worried about your budget, but the biggest tree your clearing is a 8". I personally still consider that a sappling (alot of guys on here can grind that). If your renting why not just rent a bigger T250 - T320. I would think your dealer could rent you a big track skidsteer alot cheaper than a T190, Excavator and attachments. Plus the cost of mobilization 4 times vs. 2 times and your pickup and trailer should beable to handle a T320, but a 442 on your trailer? A big track skidsteer should have no problem shoving over small trees and your only talking about 1 acre. On the bigger trees take a tooth bucket and dig down a little bit on the stump and then put that bucket up high and shove her over and be done. If your piling all the brush right there close within that 1 acre, I wouldn't even mess with a grapple bucket/rake. And when your done dig your burn hole and grade it out.

If you got your ducks lined and preloaded and ready to go, I wouldn't know why you couldn't get this done in a day, but (I HAVEN'T SEEN THE PROJECT). Your first love (T190) could probably handle it also, but if your renting I'd go bigger.

If you don't think a skid would work maybe look into Kaiser's school of skidsteers for the apprenticeship program. :weightlifter:

About your question, if your absolutely sold on a excavator go with a 24"

I dont know what your talking about when i had my 341 i would dig pools with a 36'' bucket it was heavy yeah but if your a good operator you know what your limit is.

If your digging out small stumps etc get a 24 inch bucket the 36 inch on a small mini will struggle. If you had larger stumps I would recommend the narrowest trenching bucket to dig around them and pop them out. The machine won't have enough power to pull them out with brute force.

Without seeing what your dealing with its hard to say what you are going to need.

Yeah, just one pin to pull, is that q/c? I always understood it was..

And Scag, this is once again a low budget job for us, and like I said before Bobcat is giving awesome deals on rental right now, and we wont get our deal at CAT for a 310, which is what I'd like to do this job with. But for us it'll have to be the 337 or 442..

The lady and guy we're doing it for has a F450 and 10ton gooseneck. That is what will haul the 442 or 337. I am sold on the trackhoe because of the big hole we got to dig, its some sand top on top, but once you get down a little its hard packed clay and rock. And the price of a loader is basically all the same, it is for us anyways, as long as we pick it up. But I think the trackhoe will pop those trees alot easier, and there's some bigger tree's I think might have to come out, and it will be a bitc# to dig the stump out with a loader..

The 335 had no problem pulling the 36in bucket, it would get bouncy because of the all the weight but I by no means want to dig up a stump with a 36in, that will be a bitc# breakin all those roots with a 36in, I am just not sure if I should go with two different buckets, or the one..

Why not just get two buckets, I mean how much more can they charge you to rent another bucket? not to sound big headed but if the customer can't afford the rental on another bucket why even do the job. I know your trying to keep cost down but come on.

I've dug up 24" stumps with our little 30HP tak 135 with a 30" bucket, took some time but I got it out.

He better not charge me for a second bucket. :nono: I'll do that then, thats what I was trying to figure out.. I am goin to make money on this job, not alot but I am not goin to get rich, I am just trying to spend as little as possible considering there a friend and one of my Dad's brothers. And we've never done it before and it will be a learning expierence, oh yeah, and I am goin try and get some riding lessons out of it to..

I've dug 24in and 28in stumps with the 430 and a 24in bucket, it took a long time and alot of thrashing and bouncing on that horrible 430 but I got them out..

Two problems there Construct..

1. I nor Dad can run a dozer, and this really isnt the kinda job I want to practice on..

2. The rental thing gets in the way again, I am not sure how much rental on a D3 is per day, but it's got to be more than $325...

First off a 335 will not pull a 36 inch bucket.
A 12 inch bucket is bad about getting full of clay and you have to get it out with a shovel.
I would use an 18 inch if they have it.

If not a 24 will do.
But with that weak $ss 335 it will need a 12" bucket to cut through the roots.

Or you can just get a Takeuchi skid steer and do everything with it.

If the biggest trees are 8" there wont be much of a fight to get the stumps out.I would do that whole job with a brush rake and then grade out with a CTL.I like a 18" or 20" bucket for stumping because a 12" bucket wont get under the side of a stump if you have a thumb on the machine and 12" bucket does not mesh with the thumb tines.Does bobcat have a brush rake to rent I know they make one.I have cleared more ground than a acre with a 35 size mini.If you get a real mini-X like this it can out work the bobcat two to one!!!

Man, I couldn't even get away with looking at a magazine that I had buried inside of the school book that I was supposed to be reading, let alone a computer. Internet access? What's that?

I did have a pretty good technique to get away with sleeping... at least until my elbow would slip out or I would jump and kick the person in front of me.

We get laptops, to take home, they give them to us like the second week of school, and we keep them until the week before our last week of school.

Its hard to do anything really wrong when you sit in the middle of the class and everybody around you can watch what you do, so I cant do anything real wrong, plus they block just about everything..

What the hell, you get laptops to take home... I wish we got those when I was in high school.

Yep, we sure do! :cool2: You get the same one your whole high school career, and you pay $50 a year for insurance and then when you graduate you can buy the laptop for $50..

Cool

I've never had a laptop last 4 years though... I'm a little rough on electronics I guess.

Now quit screwing around and pay attention to the teacher!

Please stop raining... I want to go back to work:drinkup:

We never had our own personal computer at school either you did school work the old way with pen and paper. Schools in B.C. can barely afford to pay for computers in a computer room that all the students use. There was no internet access back in 94 when I was in highschool.

In most classes we still do work the old fashion way, like math, english, and science. But there are some classes thats the only way we do our work..
