What do you guys think about buying a mini exc with a long stick? Is it a good extra to have with a mini or more of a necessity for certain project and more of a hassle on day to day jobs?

I've found that most days a long stick on a mini would just slow me down with decreased breakout, I honestly can't think of a time when I thought to myself that having an extra foot of reach would've helped me out. Waste of money, waste of productivity.

I wish they had an extra long stick.I find myself wanting an extra couple feet all of the time.
Kubota and Takeuchi only offer there machines with one length stick.
There sticks usually match the competitors long stick.
Most use the short stick for break out specs.
Mini ex's do not have a bunch of arm power so you end up using the bucket curl for digging ability when in hard soils.
So the extra length is not really a burden unless the machine is a turd .

interesting topic.....as a sales force, we are encouraged to figure what your ideal depth or reach range is and incourage you to purchase 25% more...just for the purpose of not having to reposition the machine. long stick machines can be a challenge, long term reliability issues.... don't bring up e stick bobcats...when they hit 1000 hrs in our area no one wants them.

Let's face it, that isn't an e-stick problem, more of a problem with the machine they're attached to!
I'm just playing, but you left that one wide open. :waving:

The problem with a long stick on a mini is it puts stress on the boom. A long stick is good if your digging deep holes.
Get the long stick just becareful about the extra leverage the stick puts on the boom.

All Kubota and Takeuchi come with a long stick so this statement would suggest to never to buy either of these?
The reality of this is there is no proof that a long stick will cause machine damaging added stress industry wide.

Thanks for the info guys! There was a Komatsu on CL with a long stick that I am kinda interested in. It is a 35 i believe with a 14' stick? That sounds a bit long to me but I'm not 100% positive $25,000 for an 05 with minimal hrs and a trailer. What do you think? A little high IMHO

The rental yard has a PC 35 long stick.
It only adds about a foot of reach so the long stick is not really that much longer than the standard.
It is one of my favorite machines I have ever used.
