Well, paint is actually some School Bus yellow from Rural King (kinda like Tractor Supply) that is what "A Plus Bob" was able to get word from the Wright dealer. Using spray gun for the everything but the rims. Using spray cans for the rims, just is such a tight area to get into without making runs in the paint.
For keeping the bolts in proper place, most of them we just kept with whatever it was bolting together. If all else fails, do have a detailed parts list on where everything is supposed to go. Also have a lot of pictures of everything as we took everything apart. It really has been fun, but this week kinda was shortened due to the 8-9" of white stuff, but I'm not going to complain!
Well for the new ZK... who could settle for just one???? :dizzy: I want 2!! Trade off my Lazer Z for the 61" ZK, and get a 52" ZK at same time!:clapping:

Looks good, my experience with a repainted mower is that the finish doesn't last long at all. Although expensive re powder coating it would have been your best bet. Let us know how the paint holds up. It does look great and you have slowed the rust by priming it too.

Quick update... sorry forgot the camera today, but have started putting everything back together should wrap everything up next week as long as there are no more interuptions. Have the dash and controls back on, along with battery bracket, and battery. Wheels are mounted again and the deck is complete, ready to be mated again to the frame.

A big thanks to the crew at LT Rich (Z-Spray) for some assistance with the hydraulic hose that was leaking. Guys sure know their stuff there at the shop.

Only thing I will not have right away will be the decals, one because they on back order for a while... then also going to let the paint cure a lil longer before I put them on. Thanks all for your comments and suggestions.... just don't think that I'll be putting that new hour meter on tho!

Jayson --- From the pics it looks like you have the mulch kit installed, but theres also a block off plate covering the discharge chute. Is that just a homemade plate? Is that deck set up strictly for mulching? The reason I ask is I recently put a mulch kit on my stander and I'm trying to fine tune it as far as what blade type and how many blade spacers produce the best cut, or if I should just try putting a block off plate instead of the mulch kit.
Thanks

well... most things went as planned... didn't get the fuel line, hydro oil added, and gotta stop and get spark plugs in the morning. Not too much more to go... just small things, and waiting on decals.
"stang 2244" That plate is just a block off plate, it is from Wright. Now I went to the dealer and the parts guy ordered the "mulch plate" and well thats what I was given, didn't work worth a crap. Due to the nature of the deck to shoot everything out the side it just wind rowed... like 1" thick what a freaky mess and hassle. So called him back and said you obviously don't know what you ordered or doing. He had to check with his dealer rep. Just say didn't waste time and called another dealer and got the baffle set-up for over $225 cheaper than the first guy.
Mine is set-up to strictly mulch, never have had problem, and the plate is nice because it makes a smooth side for nothing will catch on the inside of the deck. I believe I run 1 spacer on bottom and 6 on top think that cuts around 3.5".

the fusion paint they make for plastic works great but it will not fade. you could have used a heat gun to bring back the nice color to the tank. it brings life back to plastic. i learned that one day screwin around on my truck. i used that method on my plastic valance that had faded. after that a little armorall and it looks new. paint works but it will scratch.

Well Bob has done quite a bit of work answering your question, but I think I can help out a little more.

[QUOTE]fastcat what is the striping kit made of./QUOTE]
Simply using a semi trailer mudd flap that we but down to size for it would cover the most area possible between the tires. I'll be sure to get some pics once the grass comes alive.

Someone had asked about the cost of the project and I haven't added up everything yet but I'm having to say that no more that $150. Mainly in paint than anything else, not much parts just the decals once I order them. I've put off the decals for now, because I've just been letting the paint cure some more. Those should run about $50- 60, the "Wright Stander" decal that goes across the control panel cost $25 alone. Also are back ordered part.

a plus bob
02-22-2009, 08:20 PM
It was to far gone.it had turned Grey and was cracking.(see before pics)
(not big cracks just weathered).sanded it good to make it smooth and used paint for plastic. This has worked for me in the past you cant just use a rattle can and spray it you have to take time and prep it.and use the right paint! If armorall hadn't work it would be a pain to paint due to the silicone in the armorall !!

Well sadly I must say the engine has taken a crap on me after about 3-4 weeks into the season. Oil coming out of the exhaust, and think I've lost gaskets in the process. So I am a cheapo and really don't want to put the amount of money toward a new engine, I'd rather put it toward new. Still am looking at prices for new engine as they have moved down since a I've been looking.

The paint has held well for the time I used it, and since its been parked. I just recently did nurse the thing out of the garage to take a comparison shot with the Exmark Vantage that I had on a demo. (I'll post them ASAP).

I will say it was seriously a great time working through this, and really getting to know how the machine was put together. Of course thanks to A-Plus Bob for all the help!

too bad, we have had to replace a few engines on standers. the 17 kawi does not seem to last very long for us. not sure why but looking into it. we have a new 17 hp coming to us now to replace one that we put seals on this early spring or winter i cant remember. or heck, even last fall. anyways, it started smoking really bad without stopping and severe loss of power and compression. she is gonna blow so we put it aside and ordered a new engine. pretty sad really, we dont hardly ever get even 1000 hrs on these engines(only the 17 hp?!)

I think it is interesting how many people do their restorations. For me it always involves total disassembly and performing electrolysis on all steel parts, pressure cleaning, spraying with phosphoric acid and prime and paint. Fittings and some other parts get zinc plated instead. The only reason I have not done it lately is a lack of indoor work space. Paint seems to be getting more expensive and of lower quality. Hopefully your paint will last a while because there is nothing better than showing off a new looking machine!!

Did you do a complete disassemble in order to paint everything individually and hang dry it?

Did you ever think to just covering the engine, hoses, etc and painting it with a less disassembled version? IE) maybe just take off the blade/belt cover deck, the front wheel casters, etc and do those separate and then paint the rest of the machine with the rest covered?

Would it be ok to do it that way if you didnt want to it look completely perfect and brand new in every nook and cranny? Moreso a more complete "touch up" and less of an overhaul?

We didn't remove the hydro pumps or wheel motors.everything else was easier to remove than tape off.No over spray on any thing.Plus the motor was in need of a good degreasing. We were going for the new look.
