Kinda a offshoot of the best and worst purchases of 2008. What are folks planning on investing in this year?

I'm looking at mowers in the 32-36" range. Quick, Scag, Ferris, Exmark and Toro are what I'm comparing right now. Quick seems to be the leader on price, and unfortunately I can't get any info on Scag right now because there is an issue with the company and it's dealer around here. The Toro and Ferris are the common brands in the two closest shops, so they have the lead as far as convenience with getting serviced.
Also I would get a new trimmer. Not sure to add to my Stihl line-up or to give Redmax a shot...

Just a lot of small things. Air tank, blade sharpener, stuff like that. Spent a lot of money last year.

same here. bought a TON of stuff in 2008. REALLY wish I had a JRCO dethatcher right now. Bradford Pear leaves are a pain when they get wet. A JRCO aerater would be nice too along with the spreader.

HT 131 and an HL 100 K (135 deg. articulation)
After that I should be set for equipment for a while. The next big thing after that is a truck and retire the Liberty so it can do what it was meant to do.

Planning on upgrading power on my 61" grasshopper. I want to get a diesel, I think... Or the possibility of another brand all together (Toro perhaps) Reason for thinking about a different brand is that I bag 90% of the time, and quite frankly the Grasshopper 3 bag catcher is a friggin joke. Yes it bags great, but the cloth top lets sooo much blow out onto me, and is always getting ripped up ($$$ to replace) and I have to use bungee cords to keep it closed all the time (piss poor design). Love the machine otherwise. If I could put a catcher from a Scag or Toro/Exmark on it I would.
Wow, kinda got on a rant there...
Still kicking around the enclosed trailer idea, but that would have to happen before the season starts so I would have time to get everythign mounted in it, racks built, etc.
Possibly a "new" used back-up machine, also for rough mowing, lots, etc. But, can't decide if I want to go with another 48 to 52 inch, or get a 72". Would be nice to have a 72" once in a while...
OCDC for my main Z-turn. I love not bagging when I can, but I definately need an OCDC. Every place I mow has tight areas and landscaping I can't be blowing grass into. But, I have to find an OCDC that is easily removable so I can throw the blower back on and bag. May have to fabricate a mount for one myself...
For right this minute, that's all on my list. As the season progresses I'm sure there will be more, and tons of little stuff inbetween. Pretty much have to buy stuff, it's either that or send more to uncle sam.

You would use a ZTR finish mower for rough cutting ?? May want to re-think that plan !!

Don't think so... What else would I use? A craftsman rider? No thinks...
When I say "rough cutting" I mean stuff that's normally mowed with a lawn mower, but isn't high quality or bagged. I'm not talking about 3' tall fields here.

I want a mini skid now too. Sure would be helpful. Have you started looking at anything?
EDIT - lol, I see you just started another thread on the subject. I'll see the discussion over there.

I've started looking around.
I'm pretty mechanically incline, so I've been looking at used ones that just needs some TLC.
I've driven a Dingo and a Bobcat, and I like the power of a Bobcat, but it's bigger in feel compared to a dingo.
Every now and then, somebody on e-bay has a mini-skid, 200-500 hours, a few attachments, and a trailer for around 9 grand, so I think I'm going that route.
I've talked to a guy with a prowler, and he likes it. We both came to the conclusion that we've never heard anybody who has any kind of mini-skid actually complain about it.

Nothing at all over here, we are completely set for 2009. And with any luck, we will payoff our line of credit by May and turn a nice profit this year! :cool2:

Just thought of another one;
Either a new Tanaka "extended reach" trimmer, or another Husqvarna 323L (or larger).
It's definately nice to have both trimmers the same so parts (the head) are interchangeable. But I'm also tall and would love to try the Tanaka. Too bad there's NO dealers around here, or anywhere for that matter.

For 2009 I'm looking for a smaller enclosed trailer. Also looking for a heavier used truck with a boss V plow towards fall

Im going to sell my Deere Quik Trak and replace it with a used Toro 36 walk behind. I'd like to pick a good clean used Shindaiwa or Echo blower too.

I felt like money was growing on trees in 08 and bought and bought and bought lots of equipment. this year im going to try to save it all. But i have had my eye on a mini skidsteer for a while but i need to see whats happening before i buy one. I definentaly will be buying a Stihl Ms 361 chain saw. How many of you guys do some tree work? I really really enjoy it and have bought alot of tree equipment. I just dotnnwant to be a full time arborist because i dont feel like theres enough work.
