Just wondering if anyone is going to be expanding with any add-on services you currently DO NOT provide to your customers. If so, what is it, and what influenced your decision to do it besides increasing sales.

What other factors did you consider before deciding on your new add-on service, ie. initial investment, increased labor cost, training, ROI, etc....

I'm thinking of adding water features. I've seen pictures that guys have posted on this site and I really want to learn. 2009 would probably be a learning year for this new project, but I really want to get into doing them.

To me nothing is an add on as I try to do everything possible in Landscaping projects so I don't have the headache of subbing out work.

Worst case scenario, I have to rent some specialized equipment, but that isn't usually too bad.

I try to cover all aspects already. This year I am planning on making what we already do better and be very detailed with our work

Outdoor Lighting- For those of you that are not doing this already, you should look into it. Low voltage lighting is big, and something that can be done year round. you don't have to be an electrician to install it. It is usually an easy upsell with hardscaping. Most reps from what ever company that you buy from will help you with your first couple installs. Vista Outdoor Lighting is really good about making sure that you do it right, and make a profit. Vista helps you lay design and install your first job. They also offer lighting how to seminars. In my area they hold these seminars at JDL.

Who else is expanding services for '09? What is it?

I'll be aggressively marketing a new maintenance service for '09. My research has found that in my area very few companies offer this service, this might be a bad or good thing.

For me I was looking at doing something with minimal start up capital, low operating cost and overhead, and something that was easily trainable to employee's.

I think I found it, and I'm going to try and push it (market it) harder then the norm for us; mowing, pruning, weed/feed, clean ups, etc....

I'm very optimistic about it and hope it pans out.

Good luck to everyone else.
