I've been looking for a new (used) truck lately and now am conseidering these two. Which if either would you guys go for? Please keep in mind this WILL NOT be a work truck....

A) 2002 f250 lariat, ext. cab short bed, 10cyl (6.5L ?), AT, 4x4, 40k miles, asking price $14,860
It's a lariat so its got all the options, leather etc., relativeley low miles, what I don't like about it is it's a little older than I'd like, and the last owner customized it a little, nothing serious, aftermarket wheels, grill and rear bumper.

B) 2006 f250 xlt, ext. cab short bed, 5.4L v8, AT, 4x4, 93k miles, asking price $12,999

GORGEOUS truck, but I don't know if i can justify spending that much on a truck with almost 100k miles. HOWEVER, I don't put on an excessive amount of miles yearly, so I am leaning towards this one just a little.

If you're curious, KBB values the 02 at $16,220, and the 06 at $17,605. I'll see if i can throw up some links to these trucks also.

just from my personal experience if your planning on towing anything go with the V10. I personally own 3 and they are a great engine. Both are nice trucks but with the 06 at 93k i'd stay away. If i were you i'd keep looking they are tons of trucks out there, even in white. This is just my .02

If it is not a work truck then why do you need something so big?

V10 6.8L. I wouldnt do either. That year of V10 wasnt the best. If you do want a V10 go with at least 05+. You can also find a 250 with a V8, Crew Cab, SB for that price with less miles.

I wish that were true. In the past one to two months I've been looking, all the 05+ or even 04 trucks with 30-50k~ miles have basically been in the $18-20K range. For $13/14k I've been seeing 02's and 03's with 80-120k miles.

Maybe it's just the wrong time of year to be buying a truck, but I was really hoping to find something before the season starts back up.

If it is not a work truck then why do you need something so big?
Well, why do people buy hummers and corvettes? They certainly don't NEED them, rather they want them. But, realistically, i was hoping to get something that I can tow with if my work truck breaks down.

Check the classifieds in the New Orleans and Houston areas. Used 3/4 ton trucks are a dime a dozen...

I've seen '06 F-250 diesels with under 100k miles for under 20 grand. Lariat, 4x4, the works...

You'd have to take a long drive, but the price is right down south.

I would pick the 06 based on the fact of the price, plus 05+ years the 5.4 was boosted up in horsepower and torque so it would be plenty enuf of what you want........the miles are great on the 02 but the price would be more than i would pay for it, It would be worth it to see if you could talk them down though. The 02 is a nice truck (except for that rear bumper) ha

both are great looking trucks. i would get the v10 regardless whether its one of those 2 or not. out '01 has over 200k on it w/ NO problems. approximately the same fuel mileage between the two, with a ton more power in the v10.

i would get the '02...but thats just me.
