A while back I laid sod in my back yard. I have since been killing it off so I can remove it. I am in Phoenix AZ and I am going back to the rock that was there for ease. There has been a spread of the grass from the original sodded area and now there is grass growing up from the surrounding rocks. My question is, what is the best way to remove all of the grass in my yard? Any suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

You laid the sod on top of the rocks that were there originally?

Far as I know so long you don't water it, the lack of rainfall in that area should kill off what grass remains,
but I sense an impatient demeanor towards the whole thing and that is not the way to approach gardening.

Also this needs to go in the Homeowner's section.

This is my part in an old thread of the same topic.

Fertilize the Bermuda, get it as big as you can, use nitrogen only. Then spray it with round -up, the more foliage you have the more product is delivered to the roots and the better kill you will have. Keep watering and fertilizing, you want the roots to exhaust themselves putting out more foliage for you to spray. You are looking at repeat applications for at least two months.

Then when you think it is finally dead, I use a product called Bermuda root killer. Its a homeowner granular product from H/D or most local nurseries comes in a cardboard can with a shaker top. Also don't remove the brown foliage until you are done killing it. It is a long ugly process.

Although I think my answer is the best and I am here in town and have done this for way too long. I understand the need to get lots of different opinions before making a decision. You will have to wait until it is actively growing again probably in May to get a good kill. When it is dormant it will not take up much product.

I did not lay the sod on top of rock. I cleared the rock and leveled the ground. The grass is spreading to surrounding rock areas. The hole not watering approach does not work. First off the grass is in the rocked areas, I do not water my rocks. I have stopped the water to the area a year and a half ago and the grass is dying in the original area but spreading out of the grassed area. So I guess everything is relative, but I would not consider a 1 1/2 years as an implication of a impatient demeanor.?.? But what do I know I came here for help

AZ Gardner-

Thanks for the info. I will keep that in mind for when May comes around.
