Did a search tonight and guess what I found and had to sift through.
A whole bunch of posts saying something like " Don't ask that go do a search first" then "yea what he said".
There was one whole thread that was nothing but how stupid they thought the guy was for asking a question without doing a search. I hav'nt seen his name on lawnsite since. Wonder why?
Search reminders are OK but way over done. I just thought we could do a better job of helping eachother.
Just a thought

Dont worry its only the Search Police doing their duty, but your right it is certainally rude to a new visitor to tell them to search first, they come here to interact, not visit a library.
That's the first thing I was told to do when I did my first post. I guess I'm just a little hard headed.... And I learned a lot from that search! I didn't realize that a search was available. I was just so excited when i found the site I wanted to jump in and get advise! There's a lot of great info here!
Thanks guys/gals...

I agree the search is a good tool, BUT sometimes, someone may not have posted on the subject(new member, etc.) and they might have some new info on your question.

There's nothing wrong with a person telling someone to search first, it just needs to be done in a little more of a friendly fashion sometimes. Coming to a new site may be a little overwhelming and you don't pick up on everything at once. Staring at this site for over a period of time makes knowing how to use it a breeze. It's not that way for newbies.
Besides, seems like most of the people that spout off telling someone to search doesn't even contribute anything worthwhile themselves except " do a search first", or it's just a smarta$$ rebuttal to someone elses opinion (guilty of that one myself). Must make them feel good to get more posts added to their totals. Maybe they should go through their archives someday when they're bored and see how worthless their comments are. :p

I have no problems with questions, it just 1 that drives me nuts.
I'm thinking about starting a lawn business, give me some advice!
Come on, do some homework. That's is such a general question. That statement tells you they have done nothing, put no effort in, nothing at all. You give advice based on some assumed knowledge. But when no work has been put in, there is no knowledge base, so all we are doing is the persons homework.
Help is what this forum is for, so bring on the questions and please help in the knowledge base on this site. No 1 person has all the answers.
paul j i gotta agree with what you and the other posters have said . one thing tho these post start out being current discussions, hence the [what he saids] .later now

Bingo 65hoss, that is the one that makes me want to unload on people myself. Hard to control a smarta$$ answer when they ask that one. Your response is dead on. They want it handed to them. Well, you will only get out of this what you put into it. Like others have said before, that makes for good deals on year old equipment.

yes i was harsh at first, im sorry, however like 65hoss said it just drives me crazy, i have taken peoples advice and am friendly with the posts, instead of just telling them, i do it for them!!! what gets me is when they say they did a search, then i do the same search and find 4 threads with the info they were looking for!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it kind of nice that some people actually search and supply the questioner with a link to that thread. Classy.
It's fine to ask if someone has done a search, but there is no need to be obnoxious about it. Especially if they have done a search and still need help. Trying to find info on the internet is almost an art, because sometimes you can run numerous searches, with varied words, and always come up with hundreds of the wrong sites. It seems to me that one of the purposes of boards like this is to help people find stuff (info, where to buy mower blades online, etc).

I agree...the vague topics drive me crazy too. As an example "Help" or Need an Opinion" . Here is a goodie...."which mower should I buy?"
Alot of times old topics are reborn in new threads that are good though due to many new members as well as old members with new experiences.

God I love this. I think I was the last one to start a post like this.LOL
Hoss hit that on the head.
BTW the ones that drive me crazy are the topics that are only a few threads down and some one else decides to start a new one.

LOL, the "Which Mower Is The Best?" threads also drive me crazy, even though I did it whenever I first popped up around here....I guess it's a thing most all new members do. But usually it is the same ol same ol on here, but that's okay. once the new members get the point and start posting threads that aren't about opinions of mowers we get even more new members to do it....
