Go to the Indiana State Chemist website: www.oisc.purdue.edu then click on "pesticide" on the LH side, then find the topic about wanting to start a lawn treatment business.

google search "Purdue Pesticide Program" or find the home page for the Indiana State Chemists Office. To become a certified applicator in Indiana you have to pass to exams and satisfy an experiential component. The experience component can be satisfied by working for another company or by attending a two day hands on workshop offered once a year at Purdue.

You don't need any license to apply fertilizer. If the fertilizer has ANY control product with it EG (grub control, crabgrass preventor, disease control) you must have license to apply it.

I'm in North Central Indiana (Goshen/Elkhart)
