The Hitachi ZX27 just turned over this afternoon on my old man, we both joked around, if this was a Bobcat 425, we would have gotten rid of it ages ago!

425? Thats a 331 with zero tail swing.. You must mean 442? That is the machine compatible to the Tachi...

A 425 is comparable to the ZX27, both are 60" wide across the tracks, you must be thinking the ZX75, that baby hit 440 on me this morning.

My dad's 303CR is pushing 825 hours I think, not bad for a 3 year old machine on a landscape crew and a 7 month operating season. I think the 216 is getting right around 800 hours, he uses the mini a lot more than the skid. I remember before he bought the excavator, thought it was a terrible idea to have an excavator. Here he is 3 year later doing jobs he wouldn't ever be able to do without one. I like to remind him of that when he thinks about making serious equipment purchases and thinks he has it figured out. I may have to fight him on the new skid steer purchase, I know what he needs but he thinks he needs something else. On the other hand, if he buys what he wants, it'll be interesting to see his reaction 6 months down the road when he wishes he would've bought something bigger than he's planning on. Doesn't bother me too much, I'll be back to running big toys come April anyway so I won't be around for the lack of production provided by an underinvestment.

Why do you always make fun of your dad and say all he makes are stupid equipment purchases? It's his money and business, and you don't work for him anyways. Show him some respect, don't call him an idiot cause he buys some equipment you don't agree with. Bigger equipment does not always mean it will be more productive for him, just cause you are on big jobs with big equipment does not mean residential construction requires the same. If my old man is footing the bill for some new equipment we discuss it in length and come up with the best solution. I would never laugh at what he thinks, we respect what eachother has to say and we work well together because of it. To sit and wait for the right moment to say " I told ya so" is not the way to treat your old man. JMO

I guess since you don't know me, my dad, or the situation he's in, I guess you can't say anything about it. I just call it as I see it as we've been down this road before. Refusing to try something different just because you don't want to doesn't always make smart business sense and that's where he's at right now. I'm not bagging on him because I don't value his opinion, I take his advice whenever possible and would like to think he values mine. I really don't care what the hell he buys because I won't be around to run it, but it's going to be really stupid when he comes to me down the road and asks me why I let him buy that machine. That has happened twice in the past because he didn't listen to my advice and I was soft spoken about making my opinion clear. I guess I care too much about his bottom line to almost refuse to let it happen to him again but alas it probably will. To top it all off, when he tells me to research all makes/models for the next purchase to evalute all possibilities, I present said information and give my chosen "best fit" machine. He then tells me the chosen machine is out of the question after I was told to scope all angles. A big WTF argument insues and for good reason in my mind. A guy is entitled to change his mind, I understand that, but he's not to the point of throwing down money yet, least he could do is take a look at said machine and possibly consider a change, especially after I was given zero parameters when it came to machine selection. I do understand his concerns and his reasoning for sticking with close to what he already has, but I think his concerns toward change will outweigh the possibilities, that's what I believe he's getting hung up on seeing. So I believe I have a damn good reason to get pissed off at my dad. You're right, it is his business, he can do whatever the hell he wants and I definately won't be around to run whatever he buys, but there's just a little more to the story than me just going ape sh!t at him for not buying what I feel is best.

It sure feels good to run a machine that is built by a reputable company like Hitachi and just knowing that it will never break down due to a stupid little problem, I can only imagine what their CTL/SSL's would be and look like, but then Deere will want to slap their pathetic name on them too.

Our old Bobcat 430 turned over to 2,000 hours back in July 2008. Not bad for 6 yrs of use.
I believe I was using it, digging up a Septic tank
Not the best time to turn over to 2,000 hours :(
The old Case 1845C just turned over to 3,600 hours and the big Deere 5310 cab, 1,800 hours, the Dixie Chopper ZT, 1,100 hours, and the Toro (Dixie Chopper) 724Z ZT, 630 hours.

Nope, 200 last summer, I swear that pussy has a Herbie like intuition and fires itself up in the work shop during the night and idles to rack up the hour meter.
But then again, I still think about the "Robot Chicken Humping robot" sneaking in and humping the holy hell out of my pussy too, so I never know.
