i need a truck to get to and from school and do all the other stuff. Im only 16 so cost is most of the issue. The dodge around here are cheaper than the fords but i need something thats going to last me a good 5 years until i buy a new one. I have a price range that tops out around 7,000. What do you recommed.

in all seriousness buy a used Nissan or Toyota...those trucks will run till YOU kill them...they don't die on their own, i had a 97 Nissan I just traded...it was tough to part with that truck, had it since I was 16 and never once gave me a problem
but i came across a deal i couldn't pass up so unfortunately i needed the trade money, or that truck would still be sitting in my driveway

At 16 you should buy what feels right for your pocket book and what will get you through school with limited problems and that will have some value at trade in time. Dont set your sites on Dodge or Ford as Dirt Digger2 said maybe something smaller. With the way the ecconemy is right now it is a buyers market so I think you can be choosy and lowball the dealers if that is where you are looking. I would love to get a new truck right now because of the deals out there but mine only has 59000 miles and I would take a killing on it. I would also have to switch the snowplow over or buy a new plow, and all that cost $$$$$ So I will run what I have. This truck Im running now is the first used truck I ever bought but it has been the best so far.

Honestly if money is short stay away from a dodge, last thing you would need is for it to be nickel and diming you to death. Look for a ranger s10 tacoma frontier they are all reliable and live pretty long. Any dodge with 100k+ will be a scrap heap. I am sure the dillusional dodge fans will come on and say oh man I have 280,000 on my 360 and 760,000 on my cummins and they are great but at what cost after you have replaced everything on the truck 3 times over you could have just bought a quality truck from chevy ford or toyota. I know a few people who used to (used to being the key phrase) run dodge trucks had a boat load of troubles and are now running fords.

WLM is right, I Have a 96 Dodge ram, I have had it for about 5 years now, major fuel pump problems, and a ton of front end work on it. Dont get me wrong, I dont mind the truck, I have the 5.2L, its pulls great and those 318 engines are tough, but its the rest of the truck that will fall apart. Dont worry about the bling, just get somthing you can afford, and that will serve your purpose until you can one day down the road upgrade it. Good luck!

My first truck was a 91 F-150. Cost 4000 bucks. this was 9 years ago...I couldnt hurt that truck! But yeh a ranger or something similar would be perfect for you. you could actually find a newer F150 reg cab short bed base model for under 7k.
