View Full Version : Want to venture out into tree removal business.
I currently have a small lawn care business and I am very thankful that I am growing. With the growth I have decided to go into the sprinkler system branch of our industry but I would also like to tackle on tree removal. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find where I can get training in this field and if I need a license or certification. I have seen some businesses state that they are bonded but I can't find training programs like I did for irrigation to pursue. Can someone assist? I live in the Houston, Texas area and I am willing to travel if needed to get the experience and training I need.

Tree removal can be a hard thing to break into due to the technical aspect of it. There is extremly high risk and danger that comes with it. I currently am a lead climber for a tree service, and im thinking about going back into the landscape industry on my own. Your best bet is to get on the job training with a reputable tree service in your area. Tree removal requires insurance, which can be extremly expensive due to the high risk of injury or property damage. It is a high liablity industry to be in. It isnt an easy thing to learn, dropping (felling) a tree from the ground is completly different then using a chainsaw off the ground either in a bucket truck or climbing. Climbing isnt for everyone either, it takes a special person to be able to safely remove a tree. It looks easy but when you are 60+ feet off the ground hanging by a rope, or just with your lanyard and spikes on the spar with nothing around you, it is a whole differnt game. Its a skill that is best to be taught by a highly experienced climber and it takes time to become proficient and safe in climbing. Ive been climbing for roughly 3 years now, and every now and then there still will be a tree that will get you tense when your up in it. Its a very exciting and fun career I think, but it is also dangerous. Personally I love climbing, its an amazing work out and it will keep you in top shape. I love the adrenaline rush that comes along with it too. You will feel muscles that you didnt know you even had after a hard day of climbing. Make sure you have all of your insurance up to par for tree removal before even attempting it. If you have any questions feel free to PM me or ask away.
