Weed eater all the time.

The others are too slow.

I may try an www.edgit.com this year for the beginners.

Too much geometry. I guess it's the 90 part tell em 270 degrees.

My stick edger just sits on the trailer after one use of it. Do all the edges with the (Stihl) trimmer. 2x as fast as the stick.

i like using a stick edger. i can do it either way but the soil here is so hard it uses a lot more trimmer line if the ground isn't moist from rain.

those that are using the trimmer and can't get their employees to get it right, straight shaft or curved? i CAN'T do it with a curved shaft trimmer (retired those anyway).

I have never been very good at edging with a string trimmer, so my stick edger is a must for me. I have always used an Echo curved shaft for trimming but I've recently bought an Echo straight shaft. It's so different, I need to practice with it. I'm stlll trying to figure out why the straight shaft and the curved shaft rotate in opposite directions.

Tim,
I have to use a stick edger, just don't get the nicest results with a string trimmer. If you will notice that most everyone who says they get just as good if not better results with the string turned 90 degrees (or 270) they are not in the southeast. I don't know if it's the soil or the grass down here but you can't get the best results with a string trimmer.

The straight shaft has a gear box at the end of the shaft and the curved shaft is a direct drive to the cutting head.

Get the stick.......when you learn to use it properly it will be MUCH faster and look MUCH better.

you got to use stick edger. I have had a stihl and shindaiwa for almost 6 year and they both are still running great. The stihl is a little more powerful. As far as using a trimmer for edging, I personally feel that the customer should get the very best no matter if it your smallest account or your biggest account. People designed a trimmer to trim not edge. Your custmers deserve a good CLEAN edge every time. I have had most of my original customers for as long as i have been in the business because i dont believe in cutting corners to save time.

Get the stick edger, you'll have much more professional looking edges. Those who say they can use a trimmer definitely don't have to deal with warm season grasses or either don't care about the results. Besides a stick edger is faster and easier on you and that counts for alot.
