5k is a great start for a post card mail campagin.
There might be other avenues of advertising. Where are you doing business?

So I am assuming you already have the equipment and just going to be working in a different location?
If this is the case the 5k for advertising will be plenty to get you started, get a few customers and the rest will take care of itself

I'd say that is a pretty good budget. I hope it gets you some business. Good luck!

$5000 should be more than enough for a marketing plan to get you started! Its good to see someone starting out desiring to spend a good chunk of change torwards marketing rather than a bunch of new equipment. Advertising is about the best investment you can make! Go get em' Ugly!

I only spend about $1200 per year, all on newspaper ads in small local papers. Now if you do direct mail, website, flyers, etc then it may take $5000. I really don't know how much those things cost.

I was thinking, flyers, some direct mail, newspapers, some adds in weekly bargain papers, this budget will not include truck and trailer signage.
Do any of you have the full truck wraps for signage?

$5000 should get you a long way with advertising. If I were you I would also use some of that money to letter up your truck(s)/trailer(s).

I will do my trucks and trailers also, that will be strictly advert budget. I plan on doing my 2 trucks,3 trailers, trying to decide between lettering or full wraps for the trucks, got several estimates.
Thanks for everyones input so far, I welcome more input.

Where do you plan on spending that ad budget? There is a new local ad network just starting out on line and getting good reviews. I have to look it up and get back.
