I like the new truck a lot more than the old one. Chevy is what I'm talking about. You said in your other thread that you were gonna start to do work in Denville. That's funny I have an ex-girlfriend from there. I haven't heard anyone mention Denville in about 8 years. Either way, keep up the great work and I love the three 8001's...let us know when you get the fourth.

The fender flares on GM trucks come either black or painted, depending whether the dealer checked the box marked "painted fender flares" when he ordered the truck. ( 2001 to 2007 )

Yah, my buddy has been doing curbside for me for like 2yrs now. I'm paying anwhere from $50-150 per pile. Yah, it makes sense to have my own, especially this year with the amount of work that is expected to come in.
I would have it now except when you're 18, just starting out and have a bad economy good luck getting a loan. I've presented some family members (who have plenty of $$$$) my business plan and a contract for a $20k loan @ 13% interested and paid off in 3yrs but they wouldn't do it. So everything I buy for about a good 'nother year or two will have to be made with money in the bank.
Hopefully mid-spring I'll have a dump, if not defaintely by the fall though. The amount of $$$$ I think I would spend on pickups again this year would be probably 1/2 the price of a nice used dump. (15k+ truck)
That's the plan and I have a few things up my sleeve that I think can "make" it work.....who knows though, just going to have to wait and see....
And thanx for all the comments!! :waving:

So you pay cash for your dodge and this new chevy you just picked up? You seem to have enough income to show the bank and get a 15-20k loan easily...? Many 18 year olds get loans for trucks in that range and your prolly making more $$. Guess it dont matter if you plan on paying cash for it by summer.

Just to re-CLARIFY the dodge was always in dads name due to the loan. I made partial payments up to like August 08 and then made full payments to January 09, I bought this Chevy 'cause he was supposed to go out and get his another trick but he didn't. I needed my own truck that I could use 100% of the time so I bought the chevy.
I've gone to the bank and was denied for a $30k loan for 5yrs and a $5k loan for 1yr.
What I'm doing this year is taking 15% off a yearly contract with a prepayment. So I figure if like just 5 people take advante of that, that's like $9k right off the bat. Then with mulch I think I double that # of $$$ in the bank.
Hopefuly if I don't buy a dump right away by fall I can get like a $10k loan for 2yrs or something to help...I hate having to break the bank, I'd take payments with $$$$ in the bank over very little in the bank and owning outright.
Not being able to get a loan has got to be one of the gratest hindrances to me really growing my business...on the bright side though I'm only 18...lol
Yes Austin I plan on buying an enclosed still.
nnj18
02-02-2009, 08:34 AM
If I get the amount of work I think I will and can entice enough people to prepay on a full maintenance contract my equimpent list would look something like this, for whoever is really wondering. lol
'03 Chevy 2500hd
'02 or newer diesel dump
8x18 enclosed & 6x12 open
60" lazerz, 48" stander, 36" wb
leaf loader
What I'm going to do this year is when a person calls on a certain street I'm going to tell them if I get X amount of nieghbors or more the price is Y amount opposed to Z. I will then knock on a few doors tell them all the same thing and leave my business card. I figure even if I bid a little low according to some, the trailer and truck will be parked. So if I'm mowing these for $30 and most guys would do it for $35 it doesn't matter, I will make more $$$$. While he's driving his route (single stop routes) I'm at an entire street for an hour or more.

Who do you have a bank account with? I opened an account with bank of america (business account) and would allways recieve these offers in the mail for cash advances/loans. At first they would be 4%, 1.9% and now are 0% interest. I Have a 19k credit line and can use all of it if needed. I've gotten nothing but offers for 0% interest loans for a while now. I've used them, but with any % loan, they do charge you an initil charge of 3%, which is not bad at all. So if i need 19k tomorrow, i can get it and only have to pay 570 in interest and have until the end of october to pay for it. Look at it. At first the interest might be a little high, but once you prove to them that you can pay it back, the interest rate goes lower and lower until its at 0% (plus the initial 3%)

My brother just opened an account up with Bank of Atlantic last year, he's 16 and gets the same offers as you in the mail for loans and credit lines. I think everyone gets those whether you got good credit or no credit at all. NNJ18 best advice is get a credit card use it and make the payments on time. Ask your bank what you can do to help establish your credit. It will take some time though.

Not really. When car dealerships/banks look at your credit they don't look at just the number. I forget the actual term they use, but buying crap on your credit card and paying it off in full will give you a good number, but not a high equity (wrong word) number (not really a number either). I tried getting a loan from gm with only 5k down on a 20k loan and they wouldn't do it. YOu have to take larger loans and pay them off before they'll give you large amounts of money. Its like me buying 1k a month of stuff on my credit card and paying it off vs. a much larger loan of 20k for a car. You have to have larger loans out to prove your reliable. Depending which credit agency they use, i have between a 748 and 771 credit score which is excellent, but if i were to apply for a loan on a house with 1/4 or 1/5th down, i prob won't get it without a co-signer. I heard if you can get an am-ex card, then your likely to have/get good credit.

What are you guys making each year and showing the bank? That is one of the biggest thing for your age group. You dont have to publicly come out and say what you are making, just gotta think that if you cant get these vehicle and equipment loans at 18, it may be simply due to your not making enough yet in the banks eyes.

I tried to get a $5k loan for one year on it and was turned down....I didn't have a cosigner though.....I still dont see why they'd turn that down when my balance showed over $13k in the bank and I only wanted less then 1/2 of the trucks cost and just a 1 year loan....guess its the economy?????

By the sound of things, you are getting turned down for everything probably because you are getting your credit checked sooo many times lately. Even more than a few credit checks a year can look bad and being so young you need to keep everything perfect. I was your age just a couple years ago and never had much of a problem getting smaller loans but things have tightened up and you should lay off all those credit apps.

Thats on a JD card right? What's the interest like on one of those?
nnj18
02-05-2009, 08:59 PM
Yah that's just the JD card. If I then wanted to buy a mower on say a 3yr loan then that's a whole other line of JD credit...
Not sure what the % is I'll find out tomorrow for you though...its good for ANYTHING at my dealers store :)
South Florida Lawns
02-05-2009, 09:15 PM
Is that only good on JD equipment? They make some good mowers, but I don't know about their cut quality.
nnj18
02-05-2009, 09:32 PM
Ryan, its just a credit card...so I wouldn't want to put a mower on that...interest would probably be crazy.
Its good for anything at my dealers store but he only sells JD mowers now. I maybe forced to go JD green lol...I haven't heard too much bad about it...I do know their standers don't come close to a wright though.

i bought my scag from a Deere dealer using the credit card they set up for me. it was about 9k total i put on the card (bought some ct332 parts also). it was a 36 month pay off, i paid it off in 7 and only paid 250 bucks in interest. it helped me out and the interest isnt that bad. i could tell you what the % was but i dont feel like gettin up. haha

JD has their own line of credit. You can put mowers and stuff on the cc, just have to pay it off fairly quick
nnj18

hey guys, if anyone has any questions just ask them here....I want the 08 thread to die.
oh and I found about my JD Credit, 0% for 9 months and then its 6.5% after that....9 months is plenty of time though to pay off my stuff as far as I'm concerned.

If you ever end up stuck in the north area, rest assured, you can call me anytime. I will gladly drag ya out. I'll even buy the beers afterward. Trust me, all trucks get stuck. The dodge is his dads. He was sharing payments with him but went a different route. He sold the standers because he made money on the resales. He only owns the two Redmax in the picture now which are both brand new. Dude, bad days come and good days go. Tomorrow the sun will rise and the earth will still turn. Hopefully you will have a better day.
Now as far as the equipment goes, I have no idea your problems, but if you did what you had to do to survive, then my hat is off to you. Most throw in the towel and go home crying to mommy. I have no doubt that you will make the needed money, build some awesome credit, and conquer your dreams. Dont listen to people that are negative. They are like a tornado, they suck, and suck in everyone around them. Keep your head up. If your equipment makes you money, and you are satisfied, THEN F EVERYONE ELSE!
I have always said that there are two people in this world, those who say it cant be done, and the ones that march right by and make them eat their words....I think I know which one you are.
Have a good night, get some good rest, and prepare to conquer tomorrow.

Don't take the bad days personally. Growing a business hurts, money gets tight and relationships get stressed. I don't know what happened but what I can see here is that you've gotten strong and you now know something you didn't know last year. Just hit the ground running with your new knowledge and equipment and you'll be fine.
Love the controls on those lescos and the bullrider i think its called is awesome. Stays behind the mower which is great and when backing up you don't have to get off.
Just don't take the bad days personally and know where you wanna go and you'll do fine.
Best of luck this season!

You guys don't know what I was up against or what happened......you just see what I bought and sold.
Some of you know others don’t and those I haven’t told its none of your damn business!!!

He had to buy his own truck, because he shared the Dodge with his dad but was making all the payments. He sold all his equipment that he used in 08, and made money because he got a deal on it from another big LCO. But he still needed to get new equipment. He couldn't get a loan from anybody but he does have the deere card so he went with Lesco because JD sucks and so that was his last resort for getting commercial equipment.
I think I got it all.

hey how do the wb's fit on that trailer? Aren't they longer than a stander? I think I remember you turning one stander sideways when both were on there. You keep the blowers in the bed of your truck correct?
nnj18
02-24-2009, 10:25 AM
They both fit fine, only time I've had to put mowers sideways on it when I have two 48" or larger size mowers + a 36". A few setups I've had on this trailer:
(2) Wright 48" Standers
(1) eXmark 36" TTHP
(1) Ferris 52" WB hydro
(1) Wright 48" Stander
(1) eXmark 36" TTHP
back when I had some nicer mowers
I only have
(1) Lesco 48" WB hydro
(1) Lesco 36" WB hydro
so they fit no problem with lots of room left...

jared i dont like lesco but that is only because i found they did not last more than 3 years but for the first 3 years they were fine. Use them for a year pay them off then sell them and get what you want you might like them better then what you had, it is all personal choice that is why there are so many different mowers out there, dont hate something before you use it let your guys give them a try you are still growing as a business you did not step backwards u stepped side ways you might be happier in the long run. i know it is still winter and we all want spring so enjoy the next couple of weeks befor works get going full speed ahead and you have no time for playing you will be fine and more importantly your customers will never know the difference between the machines and will still be happy w you

yeah. use both those wb's for now , worrie about saving for a nice used dump truck because using a pickup for lawn care is a big down fall when you want to hall anything.
Im sure along the way alot of people will be selling there stuff for dirt cheap and you can pick a few things up , i just picked up a 52 sentar sport with only 300 hours for 2500 dude had to move and was out of lawn care so i picked it up..

Took me a lil while to read the whole thread to reply, ...best of luck with your new Chevy truck and the new wb lescos, they are good machines, I have two of the the pistol grip hydro's and they are fine, however, now that I have the walker I use that most, however, walker sucks on inclines, and the lescos are great at them, soo I use them on, also great for no bagging situations, and they are easy to fix and cheap to fix too! Best of Luck with your company, I had similar issues with my company last year, had a argument with my father about the company, but I managed to make it work and now back on my feet.

Hey- I'm just asking for some honest responses. I'm not commenting on the future or potential of Jaz's business. I wish him all the best. I'm questioning the honesty and experience. Jaz has no problems taking and posting pics and I want to see some pics of landscape construction jobs. Or total lawn renovations. I want to see some plants that have been installed....pics of HIS work. Surely there would be some (other than mowing pics) of a landscape job- I know he'd share them with us.
I'm just questioning without trying to bust balls too hard! :) I've been a supporter of Jaz in the past (here and elsewhere) and I know he's only 18. I think some of you younger guys eat this stuff up- the "big game" talk.... I'm just questioning the hangers and flyers in relation to reality.

I've taken classes and worked for 3 different guys in several different aspects of landscaping, hardscaping, lot clearing, mowing, etc, etc. I feel confident I can offer these services and complete them. If I didn't do you honestly think I'd still have them listed?? The ONLY thing I'm subbing out is the fert/weed/pest stuff 'cause I'm not licensed.

Newtostone, 2500 mailers and 1000 door hangers have gone out and about 30 calls so far resulting in 5 signed jobs, 4 are for yearly maintenance. Have 8 more estimates to give and waiting to here back on the others.
So they've done great!!

Hardscaping?
And 35's will barely fit on that truck, they'll rub if you turn to sharp, I know cause I am buying a set of wheels and 35's off a guy with the same truck. We cant fit them on our truck so we're going with 33's and turning the torsion bars.. :cool2: We cant lift cause we pull so much, it'd just pull that much worse..

Look at the pics of the stripes, I see no ruts, I think that is from where he turned..

in the 3 pic but it could be longer grass srom last year not cut pics are tough to see the whole story. Stripes we wont see any till 2-3 weeks up here. The bare spots I hope are from the blowers just ripping up the grass because the lawns needs some work, I m sure they know how to operate a lawn mower with out doing damage on turns. Just because a mower can do a zero turn doesnt mean the grass can handel it with out tearing up

Hahaa that's NOT ruts, the lawns a **** lawn, has holes and stuff. You want I'll take a tape measure and shove you how its impossible for my mower to have done it, I'm supposed to totally reseed the lawn and fixed all the holes.

great stuff there, but how are the mowers working out? Looks like they do pretty good with the leaves and that sort of thing. Bet you can't wait to cut some real grass with them. Are they slower than the standers? I raced around my shop yesterday, had a friend on the Z and I was on my stander and the z was like 1 mph faster.
