View Full Version : Need some ramp advice for my new trailer

Tried searching for something, with little luck so I"ll ask.
I have my new landscape trailer, and the triailer is high enough (not too high, but what is generally needed), but the back fold down gate causes too much of an angle to get the mowers on/off without dragging badly.
I've got some short term solutions, but really wanted some opinions here. Seems as though this is one item that I certainly overlooked. I can probably build something that provides some better clearance, but I'm really thinking I now have to buy some type of ramp to get the mowers on and off easily.

try raising the height on the hitch for the truck with a different drop down say frrom 1 inch to a 2 inch and then turn it over so it goes up instead of down this will lower the back of your trailer. Otherwise get a longer gate most come standard with a 4 foot gate try a 5 foot gate instead. Hope this helps!!

Interesting thoughts! I'm also going to contact the service mgr. where I bought my trailer, to see what they 'might' be able to do for me.

I know this is an old thread but I am having the same problem, does anyone have any pictures of something they welded together to extend the gate or at least a cheaper solution than buying a whole new gate?

Why go through the hassle and add more wind drag. Try raising the tongue first. I honestly have never had a problem with any mower that would require adding to the ramp.:usflag:

The 4 foot gates often have that issue. So when I had my first trailer built I had the gate made 4.5 feet long and had 4 inch drop axles. Now I wouldn't think twice id get a 5 foot gate every time. The hitch can help but there is only so high you want to take that because it does make the trailer look ridiculous when its tilted 10 degrees as you drive down the road. And you can start scraping the back of the trailer as you drive on inclines. The longer the trailer the worse this gets my longest one is 25 ft total length and if its not level that becomes an big issue. The correct way would be to extend the gate or replace it but its you choice hell you can even put a few blocks of wood under it and it will change the angle.
