This is my first post on lawnsite. I have ran my lawn company for 7 years fulltime, and found myself needing to be more effiecient. Just ordered a new 2002 72" dixie chopper diesel (xxwd5000), I was wondering what is the best method for lifting the machine up to assist in changing blades. I used a friends jungle jack on his older dc and it tended to want to slip.

Drive it up part way on the ramp of your trailer, set the parking brake. This could be problem if you have expanded metal on it...

We took a large floor hyd jack, removed the piece of the jack that contactswhat your lifting. Built a bracket that fits in its place and fits under the bumper on the dc. Y____Y
l looks like this. A pin in the middle goin down fits into the jack. The bumper fits into the Y.

i have an exmark lazer z, and i just drive it up onto a few auto ramps, and use a floor jack to tip the pitch of the deck, and i have just enough clearance to change my blades. maybe this will work for you.

I just drive one wheel of the chopper up on the gate and change them.
Get a 1 1/2 ton chain hoist, hook it to the beam in your shop, and hook it to your bumper. Hoist it up!
Or....Just pull up onto the gate on your trailer. Run the caster tire up on the edge of the gate with the rest of the mower hanging out to the side. Lock brake, and put a wheel chock behind the drive tires (Dixies aren't known for their brakes). This way you can get to 75% of the deck, if you cant get to the one spindle, just back up and try the other side of your gate!

I use a chain hoist to lift my 60" Dixie when changing blades --- it's fast. In the field I run it up on the edge of my tailgate, but sometimes I don't have room to use my 12v. impact wrench.

Thanks for all the ideas being shared, I am sure they will help out greatly. I should take delivery in about two weeks and Eric I just got my order in for my double blade brackets. My understanding is that there is no tach on the diesels, but 41 hp should be able to keep the revs up, right?

I keep in the trailer auto ramps. Just run it up and there you go. Very safe and nothing to slip and fall, except the wrench....:o
And I just took delivery of a 2002 Dixie 60" with 26hp EFI. Awesome unit!

Actually surprised to hear that. At one time, I actually thought you were somehow affliated with the Hustler line because in many threads you hyped that brand up. You also stated that on a scale of 1 to 10, they were the perfect 10. You felt they were number 1, if not the best mower ever built.
What changed your mind?

Dont get me wrong, I do really like the hustler line. But the other side of the coin is the dealer. We have no good dealer here. Support is no where at the local level and this year it was a major purchase. So I had to do what was best all the way around. In the future after Hustler gets it all straightened oout I would love the chance to demo and purchase a hustler product.

And by the way our dealer is Dickens Supply. I wish Hustler would talk to them and get them their products. It would be good for everybody in Tenn and this area. This dealer is widely known as the best, so that is why!

A Jungle Jack will lift a 60" DC, but I'd definitely shy away from it on a 72" machine. I broke my ankle last summer trying to lift one of my S'burbn Turbn's. The 72" machines are simply too heavy for the Jungle Jack to handle. Like most do, I simply drive up the edge of the trailer ramp to change blades, but I'm contemplating getting a handy man jack to lift the front of the machine........Lynn
