Has anyones steering box on 02-06 chevy 1500 crapped out on them? I already replaced the pump thinking that was it, "NOT". Replaced steering mid-shaft, it was bad, but that`s a whole different story with GM. Truck has less than 50k on it. Does anyone know if GM helped w/warr. on these parts? I know they extended the warr. on the cats to 80k only after mine plugged solid at 40!

Yeah my 03 has been replaced 3 times. They cover it under warranty at the dealer till 70k miles. That's for the steering shaft. they were having problems with the box on the 4x4's but I have not had any issues with mine.

Do you know if GM is extending warr. or offering any help on the boxes?

very hard to turn. feels like a bad p.s. pump! How hard is your truck on rear brakes and rotors?

Its not bad just machined and got new pads last year. I have a damn whining noise coming from the steering wheel, chevy said thats the bearings, they did that when changing the shaft out. Its weird tho that yours is hard to turn, have you narrowed it to the steering box?

I have a 2000 and the problem was on those years too. I had to have the steering gear box replaced TWICE, the first one was a remaned box and was defective. They also replaced the PS pump. All thankfully under an extended warranty I had. There was a "service bulletin" about these issues, but not a recall that would have paid to have it fixed.

Mine was stiff and would nearly lock up when turning sharp, like into a parking spot or driveway.

Yes!, Already changed the p.s. pump and mid-shaft. Box is only thing left. Mine whines too but i believe thats coming from the box. why would it whine 'AFTER' the new install?? Does`nt make sense!! Don`t believe GM.
