Its warm enough I have started preping flower beds and laying bermuda sod, theres things to do even when its cold, But I'd sure rather be on my mower
East central here. I'm busy with crepe myrtles mostly. Actually doing few early spring cleanups, mulching too.
Looking forward to the warmer temps for sure.

As you said, not a rich state. Not uncommon to get out-lowballed by $5.
Anyway, Grenada county. Have enough work to keep me busy. The season will start off before you know it :cool2:.

Ashland, MS here. Just moved from Detroit and am damn proud to be down here. I love the southern hospitality. We will be serving Marshall and Benton counties.
Lookin forward to starting things back up from scratch down here. Out of curiosity, how many times a month do you guys cut? From the sounds of it, over here they do bi-monthly. Most are about acre lots. Mostly elder people than need general maintenance around here.
Either way, I am lookin forward to kickin this thing off and learning about the deep history that runs down here.
Happy mowing this season gents,
Chris
Been cutting a lot of trees up here in Iuka. I love running a saw for some reason. Prolly cause I don't get to do it very much. Almost time to do late winter pruning which usually gets the ball rolling for March. Ready to do some fishing too!!

they do do quality work, and back it up, after I got mine, a few months later I finally put the mower in the front gate and discovered that the trailer flexed from the weight and the side gate wouldnt close. I called Matt at C&W and told him, he said bring it by one day and the would fix it, they welded some more supports under that gate and made some adjustments at no charge.
Great folks.

Just as one would figure. LCO's go where the money is. The north MS is basically an extension of Memphis, i.e. DeSoto, Marshall... Next spot the capital states Madison, Rankin and finally the coast areas Hancock, Harrison. Everything else is business wasteland.
Not to mention on income per citizen in 2007 we came out last :hammerhead:, again! :wall: What gives? :dizzy: while the Connecticut folks earn twice the dough as Mississippi .
Just so some of you will understand why I constantly grumble about rising expenses.

Well this is a place we can blow off some steam, so far I dont have any complaints, still ;picking up new clients even this late in the season. Met another LCO from in town and seems he is doing good this year too. So even in this lil bitty rural place business is still good.

So far I'm doing better than last year, march was a little slow. April has been wide open. I've only gained one mowing customer over last year, but seems this year more people are wanting shrub trimming, pinestraw and mulch. I've picked up several customers this year that mow their own grass and want me to keep their flower beds clean and shrubs trimmed:cry:.

I am starting to get them too, as much as I hate bed cleaning, its money. I did a big whole lawn clean today, the house hasnt been lived in in years so everything was grown up, took my helper and me 5 hours to cut and shred the shrubs, stumpt everything, line trim and mow twice. got good money or it and bi-weekly service on an empty house. Thanks WPLE, he refered it to me.

Hattiesburg here. Dealing with the heat and thankful for the little bit of rain and the much appreciated cloud cover we got this week. Been going full steam but all of my clients are year round anyways. Over the last few years we have greatly shifted our business into landscape lighting design and installations and away from the major mowing we once did.
If anyone in MS needs to sub out some lighting feel free to PM me.
Hope everyone is still doing well and enjoying the clouds and rain as much as we are.

90% of my lawns are irrigated so doing pretty well. Been doing more irri repairs than I would like to latley but its cashflow.
I have found charging per service gets you cancellations during dry spells. We charge most of our properties a set price per month for lawn and bed maint then charge accordingly for color...mulch etc. Works out for us and the client both and I am also making the same in the winter even tho my over head decreases.

It could be just me, but it seems like every business owner I meet has a cousin, nephew, brother n law , or uncle that get their business because the get a second bidding chance if you know what I mean.
