This is my second year on my own and I do not like my company name, New Edge Landscape Maintenance. I am getting liscensed and insured and all this year because last year was a trial run. I have been in this industry since I was 16 and am almost 23 now. I have a few Ideas for a company name and would like some opinions on them. Any tips are appreciated. Thanks for your input.

Here are the names I like that are not taken in my area:
Turf Tigers Lawn and Landscaping (Leaning towards this one)
Turf Pros " " "
Pro Turf " " "
Turf Green " " "

I have a few others but they are silly imo and New Edge doesn't give a lawn company image.

Make sure you put a lot of thought into this and that when you decide you are have no doubts of what you have chosen. I say this because i rushed my decision and i sometimes regret it. My company name is Quality Landscaping Services LLC. Way to long! and i cant go and change it because its an LLC and i have been advertising and marketing it for a long time. Id have to start all over which i wont do.

If i had to do it all over again i would pick something short, and unique. Something that a potential customer would remember.

So when I form an LLC, should i use only "Pro Turf", for example, and only use lawn and landscaping as a description underneath? Or should I form the llc as "Pro Turf Lawn and Landscaping"?

I personally don't like putting Lawn and Landscaping in with the name only because I feel it lumps you into the same category as 80% of the other businesses out there.

I will say that having the name of my biz the way it is made it hard for people to figure out what I did, but once people seen it, they understood what I do.

It has taken a little extra time I think for people to truly understand what I do but I feel I've really made a "Brand" for myself.

Something to keep in mind.......

I like PRO anything! My company name is Pro Edge Lawn & Landscape LLC

Five points, On. Can

My name has lawn and landscape in it and when telling someone it is a bit long to say.But when I started I wanted people to know I did both. I knew that I wouldn't have enough on just doing lawns at first or where the business would go in the years ahead. Now I do mostly lawns as that is what I wanted. I won't change the name on business liscense, but the next time I order business cards it will just have Five points Lawn.my .02

Lucky Star Lawn Care

I just have "lawn care" in my name and sometimes I wish I had landscapining in it as well but after I have thought about it I am glad I do not. On my ads, business cards, and soon to be on my truck I have listed what services I offer which lets them know that landscaping among other things are offered. Using "Tiger" can be useful when trying to be catchy and will give you many options for a logo. my .2cents

You better check your listings for registered names, phonebooks etc. To make sure they are not taken already. Would'nt make somebody very happy seeing their name turning up on the side of somebody elses truck:nono:

Don't think about how long the name is as much as what work you want to do. If you are just doing maintenance then you may want to state that. I, myself do mostly maintenance unless one of my customers want something done. I do not offer fert and squirt services right now so i left anything about "care" out of my name. Most companies around here that offer fert programs only are a "blankety blank lawn care" name. A big trend around here is "complete" or having something to do with complete in their slogan. I don't want to be looked at as a big commercialized, bargain company rather a company that is the highest quality you can get.
And don't put your name in it if you ever want to sell it, that can be very hard to do.
If you live in a big metropolitan area and you don't want to mow clear across a county or two you may want to mention where your work is centered.

So...my first name of Mott Lawn and Landscape is out the door since I don't want my name in it and I don't offer landscape management. And to me, "maintenance" or "management" isn't very special so I went with something a little different. E

Elite Lawn and Garden. Markets to the wealthy that will let me take care of any maintenance issues and I feel like it says "I'm your guy if you want it all taken care of"

If I offer landscaping installs or fert programs down the road I can market that seperataly.

Good Luck. Its not so much the name as the product...

thanks for the suggestions guys. I am liking the lawn and garden idea because I am trying to appeal to the higher end accounts and that seems a little better. Still wrestling with the main part of the name though. I am liking Pro Turf and Turf Tigers. I think the Pro Turf one sounds more like a business though. All of the names I have listed are not used in my tri-state area. Do I have to worry about people with the same name elsewhere in the country? Lets face it, not many lco names are unique.

As far as I know, as long as you don't market or sell your services outside of your state you shouldn't have to worry about another name... You may need to check with your county or city government for registering your name with them as well. Remember, if your business name is anything except your complete surname you must register a fictitious business name.

Consider this. You can name and form your company with any name you want (long, short, otherwise, and then do a DBA for a shorter/snappier name, if you wish. Example:

Electronic Data Systems (former company I worked for), dba - EDS.

Just another way to look at it. Having said all that, it's obvious I went for something somewhat traditional - but I feel that I can get it out fairly easily.

Another point, is your web name, can be a takeoff; abbreviation; or something else. Though my web site is NOT up as yet, it's registered. It will be:

www.ClassicLawnsOfTexas.com

I wanted something that could very easily be remembered.

Just make sure that it represents the 'translation' to your services. Eco-Green sounds good.

Sounds pretty good to me. I still kind of like Pro Turf a little better but you have to like your name more than some guys on Lawnsite. lol

I like the name pro green, pro turf, pro etc. But that is a common name in any city you go to. I regret the name all american lawn because it is so common and un-original. There has been numerous people decide to start a business in my area with my name. Obviously they dont have there bus. lic. but all i can do is call them and let them know i have that name registered. I would guess with the name pro green or pro turf you may have the same issue. The upside to my bus. name is its very marketable, and would assume pro-anything would be as well. If i had to do it over, i would be very original when naming my company. good luck

This is a good one for me to reply to, as I am considering a name change for my company as I go into my 3rd season this year. The only reason I am even considering making the change is because the first two years were very, very limited in the number of accounts I serviced, the amount of advertising I did, and the limited number of marketing materials I had printed.

Here in Indiana, if you sign on the the Sec. of States website to register your company name, it does a search and lets you know if that name is registered by anyone else in the State. I would imagine most States websites have that feature as well, and comes in real handy when coming up with a name that no one else has registered ... not saying someone isn't using that name though ... just not registered.

I do know though, that my name now is "Prestige Landscape Management, LLC", and I will only be going with Lawn Care this next time around ... and may not even use that in the "registered" name. That way, if I decide to go a little different direction down the road,, there will not be any "name" worries.

Good Luck ... and be sure and bounce your name ideas off of family and friends. Their input can help alot.

I'm sorry,..but am I missing something, or what? So often people come on here asking for help, and their original names ARE in dire need of help. In this case however,...he is looking at all these different names, and quite frankly, I really LIKE the name New Edge. It sounds much like New Age. Now, the TITLE may need a little help. Perhaps we could use something like New Edge Professional Grounds Maintenance - or New Edge Professional Landscape Management. Of course, you COULD go with the good ol' stand by of New Edge Lawn & Landscape. I could do a GREAT marketing theme and campaign with this name...
