Here it is boys and girls. Although it is not 100% yet, I would like your thoughts and opinions on what should/could be changed. I have a couple of things in mind already, like untiliting the picture and the logo has to be changed a bit yet. Any others, let me know!

*sidenote: the green is REALLY green on these, it's more of a forest green with the hardcopy. The conversion isn't the best quality, but you get a general idea of the layout.

I think it's cool, but how much return do you think you'll get off of your door hangers? Does word of mouth not work in your area? I'm interested to see if your approach works in your area, so keep us updated!

I'm too new (1 year in business) to have a substantial base of word of mouth, so I am hoping that advertising can gain a regular customer base and than from there word of mouth will do its magic. I hate to have to advertise, but I see no other way in gaining the amount of clientelle I want in a decent time frame.

I will let you know my percentage of customers gained with this advertisement though.

I like it... however I would not put a price per service on the flyer. The customer may think you walked thru there back yard with them knowing. ( I am assuming you didnt ) Bottom line you dont know what is back there and dont sell yourself short! Maybe you could say call for a free estimate. That is my thoughts

My opinions...

I don't like the term "mulch and rock landscaping" I have no idea what that means. I also don't like the "all hard surfaces blown clean...". Personally, some may disagree, I don't think you need to explain what is included in lawn care/mainteance/mowing, etc. The idea is to get them to call you not list the service you perform in detail. I would recommend offering more/better coupons. $25 off any service doesn't make me want to call. 10% off mulch installation, every 10th cut free, refer a friend discounts, etc., again IMHO, will attract more callers. Also, place a date when the coupon/s expire. Give the people a deadline on when they should call by to receive this special order.

the overall look of the hange I like. Very professional. I just feel it needs something that will perk the customers interest to call.

I don't like the word proof written all over it. Just kidding...sorry I couldn't resist! I think it looks awesome. The only thing I would say for the future is I agree with Pro Edge about putting your estimate right on the door hanger. I think it could turn some people away. Just my opinion. Other than that I like it. Keep us posted on he feedback that you get.

Thanks for your input I really appreciate it. I will definitely think about rewording the rock/mulch landscaping into something more generic.

I wasn't as explicit enough when posting these door hangers, and will try and provide some more insight into what I am trying to accomplish with these. The reason I explain what is included in the mowing is to cut down on calls asking what I will be including with the price of the quote I gave them. Now, with the quote, I am basically going to go into a neighborhood I know will be lucrative and put a general price per cut. I will look up at random the lot sizes in that neighborhood and base my price off of that. It's public information on the assessors website in Omaha. Most of the lawns will be uniform in size, and I will take into account the average amount of landscaping that will have to be trimmed around. I will think about rewording the blowing part though, I just don't like to say mowing, edging, trimming and blowing. It sounds dirty to me

I will try and add one more coupon though, and change the first one. Also I will add an expiration date to the bottom of each one. Hopefully that will entice enough customers to call by that certain date, because I will only be handing these out in the spring time. I will order more for early June, maybe with coupons or maybe not.

Keep the opinions coming though, I am as open minded as it gets

I do understand Pro Edge's take on how a customer may feel, however I respectfully disagree. I think putting your Estimate amount on the door hanger is an excellent idea. I feel there are potential customers everywhere who see us driving around with our big trucks and expensive mowers, and a lot of them probably feel that they can not afford our services. I think by putting the price right in their face your letting them know we may not be as expensive as they thought. That doesn't mean sell yourself short. If you can't see enough of the property to do an estimate then don't leave a price. Who knows you may pick up a customer who wasn't even considering lawn care just by letting him know he can afford it.

I finally broke down and ordered 1000 postcards to try out from gotprint.com. I couldn't beat the price at $30 for 1000, $39 total shipped. I decided to leave space on the back of the postcard in case I wanted to write down the price for weekly service. I'm comfortable enough with the areas I am going to be dropping these at that I can give accurate estimates to most properties while I'm putting them out. If I should come upon a lawn that I might need to take a closer look at, I'll simply leave it blank. That way I don't back myself into a corner I don't want to be in.

Dang, they have great prices. Have you gotten anything from them yet to give feedback on quality, etc? I thought overnightprints.com had good prices, I could have saved a boatload going with your site!

I did a lot of shopping around before I decided on them (about 4 hours of non stop online seasrching). They were printed today and they will ship out tomorrow. 3 day turnaround. These are the first things I've ordered from them so we will see what the quality is like. For the price, I felt like I couldn't pass it up. If the quality is there, I'll be ordering another couple thousand as well as a new batch of business cards next month. I'll give an update once they come in. I designed the postcard myself with their online designer tool. It wasn't terribly hard and I was able to upload the logo I just made relatively easily to use on it.

But isn't that what the point of the doorhanger is, to have people call? Once they call to ask what that price includes you can explain that to them as well as start to mention what else you do and can include that in the cost as well. Something along the lines of "yes that price includes that but for 5 dollars more per service we can do this."

Another way to think about is this, grocery store ads. Say that ad has a price for Milk but no set quantity of milk. Say it's 1.99 for Milk. You get to the store and it's 1.99 for a half-gallon, that's a big rip off. Now I am very explicit with what the customer is getting, and then they didn't waste theirs or my time by calling and asking what they are getting, they already know and they are in-turn calling to sign up instead of trying to make a decision if it's a good deal or not. They already KNOW it's a good deal and have their mind made up.

Simple as pie!
