SUNSHINE LAWN

At my house I have an area about 30' x 75' that was full of miniature bamboo. Before this winter I cut it all down to ground level and covered it with about 2 feet of leaves trying to kill it by not allowing sunlight or oxygen. This spring I want to remove the leaves and plant english ivy in there. Should I use landscape fabric to keep the bamboo from growing in there? Any suggestions?

Oh boy! You're not gonna like this.
Season before last this guy came up to ask me what I do to kill it. I asked about Roundup, etc. He said he had tried roundup, some other comm'l type killer, diesel fuel, and everything else to get rid of it. He was at the point of digging, but the runners underground are very fast and if you miss just 1, it will start spreading again.
