Just finished setting up an LLC. Couldn't have been easier. Highly recommended as it took about 15 minutes and only $500. They take care of filing everything which makes this a total snap.

May I ask why the LLC vs the S-Corp or Inc.

May I ask why the LLC vs the S-Corp or Inc.

I just set up a second business to fund my lawn addiction :) I'm doing all the maintenance at our other company and wanted to have a way to write off my equipment etc... There is no need for a C corp as it's pricey and overkill. The S corp would be another way to go but in talking with my accountant he recommended an LLC for the small amount of revenue I'll be generating. Keep in mind any profit is taxed on your personal taxes as an LLC.

Im small too. I cut for about 25 customers last year and hope to grow this year to maybe 35 - 40. Just wanting to go legit and get insured and all that now that I own a house and have alot more to loose and alot more equipt. to protect. I work a full time job so Im looking for a fast way to get all this done before my season starts up.

Before you set it up I'd talk with an accountant or do some research. Depending on how you plan to grow, how many shareholders/partners, etc... you may have or how you want to pay yourself will all come into play. there are pro's and con's on both sides. I'm not pulling a salary or any money from this business, it's simply a way to account for the revenue I'll be paid from my other company and depreciate my equipment accordingly. More than likely I'll be showing a loss which is a good thing when it comes to personal taxes. You may be better off with an S corp.

Ive used them for wills and for my LLC. No complaints. As far as I have found, they do a good job for a great price.

I hear you on the write off's I was just curious about the LLC, my accountant did our INC, she steered me away from the LLC, also here in Tn to form a LLC was the more expensive route, and cost more to maintain with the secretary of state each year here. Also most assume you have some extra liability shielding with LLC's. Most business's are either sole proprietors or INC

Is Florida the only state that lets you incorporate your company online? I think I just paid the state's fees which were about $125. I'd see if it's something that you can do yourself. I have a friend here in Florida that used LegalZoom or a similar company to incorporate and they told me it was about $1000. I didn't have the heart to tell them that you could do it yourself in 30 minutes at sunbiz.org for just over $100.

I cannot remember exactly how much we paid to INC, but I can almost guarantee it did not cost us even $500.00, and we did it locally through are CPA. Their are two ways to look at this 1.) the perception that it's so easy you need only use a company like Legal Zoom. 2.) Or you could use a local company or CPA (actual person) that will sit down, and answer all your questions for less money I think.

Bold text above also applies to an S corp as well.
