I think I spent about $300 on newspaper ads last year and picked up 5 accounts. Plus small jobs, shrubs and what-not.

I was thinking about running it for 6 mo. but im not sure i want to pay that.

I just ran an ad for 60 days, 7 days per week in two local news papers, one trading paper, and online for $90. I am one of the newbies here so I cannot testify as to how it will work for me.

I put a small ad in every spring and fall in the service directory section, the price is about 240 bucks.. For fall, on average i get about 50-60 calls, of those 1 out of 4 are out of my reasonable operating area. Of those that are in my neck of the woods many just want an estimate. All in all i might pick up 15 customers, of those 15, about 7 or 8 come back next year. 2 or 3 become year round customers. Those are just my numbers, results will vary.

I'm fixing to run a sticky note ad on the front of each paper and see what it does. Not sure if it will pay off or not.

I run a small ad each year before the season begins. Mixed results, some years I pick up double digit accounts, some years I get two. Just depends who catches your ad.

All my business last 2 years was from newspaper or penny saver nickel type ads. I've landed some great customers but then again I've spent a boat load of time driving all over my service area.
I will be doing them again but for my specialty services. Never again for just mowing. Profit margins are waaaay to thin for just mowing - at least in my area.
