Really? Which is the smallest? If youre looking for fuel economy dont go with a 3/4 ton truck. if you want the best available economy you need to go diesel. All 3/4 tons are the same size, What do you mean by smallest? height? wheelbase??

Have you never seen a truck?

If your doing a few lawns then you might get by with a 1/2 ton but when I asked this question a while back I was definetly suggested to buy a 3/4 ton with all the landscpaing I do. My 2000 Chevy 3/4 ton 6.0 doesn't do too bad.

I know that you said only 2000 and newer, but I have a couple of recommendations from before then. Ford made an F250 (not super duty) from '97-'99, with both 4.6L and 5.4L V8 engines. The 4.6L gets 18, and the 5.4L gets 17. The best fuel mileage in a gas 3/4-ton is the '96-'00 Chevy 2500 (old body style) with the 5.7L Vortec V8. It gets outstanding mileage (19 MPG), despite it's large engine displacement. As for 2000 and newer, the Ford F250 super duty with 5.4L is pretty good on gas as long as you keep your foot out of it, maybe 17 mpg. Really, diesels are the only 3/4-ton trucks that get REALLY good mileage. The best diesel 3/4-ton truck IMO is a Chevy with the 6.6L Duramax. It is a very good engine, has great power, is quiet, and gets very good mileage, up to 21-24 MPG. The Dodge with the 5.9L Cummins ISB diesel is very good too. The Cummins trucks from '02 and older get better mileage than the newer ones, also getting around 21-24 MPG. Don't buy a Cummins that has an automatic transmission as they are terrible. Overall, the Dodges aren't built as well as Chevy and Ford. It's just the Cummins engine that makes them good. The Ford F250 Super Duty with the 7.3L Powerstroke is very good, but doesn't get good of mileage as the Duramax and Cummins. Hope this helps, and feel free to ask more questions.

did the 1500HD come only with the 6.0L? cause if you could get the 5.3L that would be your best option. i think chevy makes the smallest as in physical dimension 3/4ton and i know it is the lightest at approx 6900lbs, ford and dodge 3/4's are closer to 7500lbs.

According to the Wikipedia article on the Chevrolet Silverado, the 5.3L V8 came in the 2500 series from 1999-2000, and it was rated to get 19 MPG. But starting in 2001, the HD series came out, and the 5.3L was dropped in favor of the 6.0L.
