What brand(s) do you guys like for work boots? I want to get a high quality leather pair and it has to be waterproof. I'd like for the boots to have a Gore-Tex liner, good in mud, and comfortable on concrete.
Usually I buy Timberland Pro's and they hold up good for 6 months, but then they start getting wet. I think I might go with Red Wings this time. Any suggestions? Boots are something that I don't skimp on, so please no Texas Steer references.:)

Redwings....bar none the most comfortable boot i have ever owned
just make sure you get the heavy duty sole designed for construction and not the light duty sole more suited for warehouse work

I have had red wing boots and I have not had any complaints with them. They are good boots.

Danner builds a good boot as well but they are a little more expensive. My dad bought the Danner Quarry 2.0 last fall and he likes them. I wear White's Smokejumpers myself, love 'em. They aren't insulated nor are they 100% waterproof, but most days I need neither and they are incredibly comfortable and a very safe boot. I'm in my boots 16 hours a day during the summer months, the large initial investment was worth the comfort, let alone the quality of the boot. They're completely rebuildable for about 1/4 the cost of a new boot, I get 2 years out of mine before a rebuild. Handbuilt here in WA, I've been to the factory and it's a sight to see. A lot of guys who work in the woods or on a USFS wildland fire fighting crew wear White's, I suppose it's a PNW thing. Here they are the day I brought them home.

I shop one brand and that is Matterhorn. I have one pair that is insulated/Goretex that I wear in the Winter. I have another pair that is a logging type boot, steel toe and steel up the front of the boot. Its an ugly looking boot with rubber on the outside on the toe, but its a well built, safe boot. I have used Matterhorns in every climate short of the Jungle and I really like them.

I used to buy Cat boots several years back, but it got to be too much of a conflict of interest. Honestly, they held up descent until the pinky toe area would wear out, but they wouldn't keep water out. I still have a steel toe pair that I got for free for doing a demo. I used them for motorcycle boots. If you're not in mud much they're O.K.
I'm just going to stick with a 6" boot for my everyday boots. I've also heard good things about Danners but I had to Google the Matterhorns. I think there is a Red Wing outlet not too far away I might check out.
Thanks for the link btw.

I bought Danner boots last year - steel toed with rubber coated ends. They broke the stitching around the leather to steel area by the toe on both sides. They were comfortable. When I worked construction for years, Red Wing's were awesome and I could walk on green concrete and not leave tracks and my legs didn't hurt at the end of the day. Never tried Matterhorns. I am looking for boots too 'cause if my dogs are barkin' it is not a good day and usually a short one....

That's my thing, my dogs are howlin' after a long day on concrete. I need a heavy sole though like DD said because I'm usually in mud/dirt. Trying to find the best fit.

Didn't we just have this thread?? I wear the Cats, they are comfortable, but heavy. And thank God for the steel toe, it has helped in endless ways, against the chainsaw as one of them.

I wear flipflops............just thought i would get things rolling.:)
I bought boots this summer, but still haven't giving up on the old one yet,but soon. They was Timberline, now you tell me???????
I let my helpers pickout there oun,but i was flipping the bill. They both went with Redwings, they seem to be holding up good and they are hard on boots. The teenys they was buying at Walmart wasn't cutting it.So the main reason i took them shopping!
They was suppose to be waterproof, the the shoe store said you need to spray them every once in a while with waterproof spray.Seem to be working so far for them.
I like laceup boot for ankle support and work, but like slip on boots also.Use to wear the Redwing slip on boots all the time when younger when i worked on road construction.
Got some slip on boots they are Survivors, will have to wait and see how they work.:usflag:

I have been sporting Rocky's when not wearing my Nike moccasins. The Rocky's have lasted about two years and then I wear them out, I do seem to kill the laces.

I've been using Merrell boots for the last several seasons and have been very happy with them.

I have tried Danners but they just never broke in for me after 3 months I was still bringing another pair of boots with that I would switch out at coffee or lunch break! I do really like my Danner hunting boots though. I then went back to Redwing and will probably never switch again. I'm pretty sure you can get the Irish Setter model that has the Gore Tex. Good luck :walking:

There is no boot that is water proof unless your buying a rubber boots.
I stopped wearing cheap Cat brand boots they last me 6 months and I get rid of them.
They are not water proof and don't have laces but now I buy Blundstone slip on Romeo I always have worn Romeo slip ons but they were Gorilla brand but I can't get them anymore. I have a pair of Vibergs they are simillar to what Scag has I had them for 6 years or longer.
Maybe Junior will lend you a pair of his high heals he wears

I wear Red wing 2292's. They are an 8'' logger type boot with some insulation and a gore tex liner that actually works. If its muddy or snowy I wear Muck boots. They keep your feet dry as a bone and the artic sport ones are very warm. If you need steel toe pac boots I have heard good things about Hoffman boots.

I like to jam out the steel toe flip flop, made by who knows, you should ask Chris for the number considering he loses so many pairs in the mud..
I've got several different pair of boots, and I would recommend all of them(Justins, Red wings, Rocky) but by far my favorite were my Rocky mountain tested slip on's(I think that was the name) I loved them, very comfortable, and a good lookin boot. The pair of Red wings(they look just like loggers but dont have that huge heel and they are lace ups) I work out of now, since I grew out of my Rocky's and couldnt find another pair, are some $50 on sale I found out running around one day, I'd recommend them, but they arent the purtiest and I dont like the thin heel and sole, I am goin to wear them out purty quick once I get back to working full time.. The one pair I wouldnt recommend to work out of for a while are my Justin riding boots, they are suppose to be there work boot line, who knows? But they were a bitc# to break in, and they still hurt my feet the stupid things, but I think its just because they are slip ons and the way the boot is made around the ankle to keep it from slipping is what makes them hurt, but the guys I know with them love them and they havent had the same problem as me, I think I just got a Friday at 5 boot...
Red Wing's in the warm months and Irish Setter's (made by Red Wing ) in the winter months

Red Wings all the way. They are the most comfortable boot I have ever worn and I have resoled them numerous times. I prefer the flat construction soles to the Logger style high heel, my knees and back prefer the flatter sole. I'll leave the loggers and cowboys to their high heels =;)

Ill agree with ya George, I love the flat soles. They are getting harder to find though. Redwing is only making a couple different styles now

hands down the most comfortable boot on the market !!
The only boot I found that has all leather inside (including over the toes) is Carolina. I don't wear socks so leather integrity is a must.

I have a rough time finding boots in my size 16. I am using Lehigh boots currently, but when boots are not required will use sneakers or even cleats as they are less hot and lighter. In fact I prefer cleats for some situations as they give better traction than my boots ever did.
Size 16? I think the guys on Monster Quest were looking for you or your brother in the 'Glades last week. No luck on that episode, I wonder if I can get a reward!
