1991 Hydra Mac HMI 1850
2500 hours no problems
Pretty sure it has a 58hp motor. Regular bucket
-6.4 mph top rate of speed
-Operating weight 7400 lbs
What is something like this worth.
Discontinued in 1996

Not much, 3-4K I would guess at best. No dealer support, and questionable parts supply would make it a tough sale.

3-4 k because its not that clean, What if it was repainted and cleaned up real nice, Or regardless its just not worth much more?

I think a coat of paint and new stickers would help get your 3-4K quicker, I don't see you getting much more than that regardless of condition. An off brand, discontinued machine, in a down turn economy is a tough sale. This is my opinion. I may be wrong.
You have a few things going for you, It has a Cummins motor, looks clean, they were known for there simple design and when you get down to the lower prices skids seam to sell fast. One biggie that hurts older skids is the lack of auxiliary hydraulics and a universal attachment plate. Put it on local Craigslist that has rural areas and put a good price on it and lower it if you get no interest, Craigslist is free so advertise and sometimes you get lucky. I would also say about 4k but, sometimes hobby farmers and people that own land will surprise you what they will pay for low price skids. Make sure you put skid loader in the title and that it has A Cummins.

You might try Schmalz Enterprises in Thief River, Minn. He had a rental fleet of Hydra-mac machines. I have this old number, I don't know if it is still good. 218-681-4581. If he isn't interested, he gets calls from Hydra-mac people and he might be able to sell it for you.

I think you are right on it! The 1850 was a horse of a machine in it's day. I am not sure if that is a true Cummins or if it is the Cummins/Onan diesel. if it is not the true Cummins then it is not that desirable. The Cummins/Onan was short lived and they went on to John Deere, those were the best. Since Hydra-mac went out of business there are a few pockets of people that will pay for decent machines since they have had them for years and know about the heavy duty build. Usually tree movers are big fans of Hydra-mac's larger machines. I would put top retail in nice looking condition and no issues at about $8K but that could be a real stretch, I don't buy them anymore and I used to hunt for them. $3K to $5K is probably most likely. It is a shame because the Hydra-mac was a great machine, very heavy duty. They made machines in the thousands for other manufacturers like International Harvester and Gehl. If you ever see one of those makes with twin T handles then it was probably made by Hydra-Mac. They were one of the first makers (in the USA) of the track skid steer. That probably helped to put them under. When I was selling and demoing the Hydra-Mac,(late 80's) I had no concerns selling against any of the competition unless a Case 1845C showed up. Then I knew I had to sharpen my pencil or put the ramps back down.... True Cummins Power...
